I cannot tell you if there still are sharks in the river Mersey but in 2008 there was a baby shark caught by two fishermen and near the end of 2010 a BBC radio presenter was on Google earth and typed in Albert dock were he discovered a large shape in the water and it's been said it could have been a basking shark. It eats plankton so it is harmless.
