Sandy soil has larger particles, which creates larger pore spaces that allow water to drain quickly through the soil. This means that sandy soil dries out quickly after rainfall. In contrast, clay soil has smaller particles and smaller pore spaces, which causes water to drain more slowly. This can lead to water logging in clay soil after rainfall.
Plants that can thrive in sandy soil include succulents, cacti, lavender, rosemary, and certain types of grasses like buffalo grass or Bermuda grass. These plants are adapted to tolerate the well-draining nature of sandy soil and can thrive in such conditions with proper care.
In order to grow grass seed in sand, you need to keep it moist constantly. I know first hand as my front yard is all sand and I have a beautiful lawn. I do recommend fertilizer as sand has little nutrients.
Fire (never recommended) would destroy any grass above ground but would have no effect on its root system. Bahia grass grows best in sandy or dry soil, which is why it's so popular in sandy coastal regions. One of the surest ways to kill bahia grass is to drown it by keeping the soil consistently moist until it dies back.
When it rains on sandy soil, the water tends to drain quickly because sand has large particles and poor water retention capacity. This can lead to leaching of nutrients from the soil and poor moisture retention for plants. In some cases, heavy rainfall on sandy soil can cause erosion due to the loose nature of the soil.
Loam soil is better
one half sandy
Jowar can be grown on less fertile soils and requires moderate rainfall and moderate temperature. Specifically, alluvial soil or mixed black soil and red soil are perfect for Jowar.
Unsaturated or coarse soils like Sandy-Loam soils.
