It does seem to be an axymoron of sorts. If it's nothing, how can you be 'doing' it? I say it is OK to say it. Everyone knows what the phrase means, and so it is useful. If you are uncomfortable about the illogic of it, say 'nothing in particular', or 'nothing special'.

Being bored is having nothing to do or not knowing what to do with your time. Doing nothing is actually doing something. It is when you are not doing what you are suppose to be doing or after you have completed a task and there is nothing left to do. In the case of kids, when they say they are doing nothing that means somebody needs a whooping and you need to find out why immediately. lol
"doing nothing" translates to, "amu-gut-do-ahn-heh" (아무것도안해) in Korean. Actually means I'm doing nothing.

Well if you're doing nothing, then you could say you are doing something by seeing that you are sitting in a chair or standing or breathing or living, if you are doing nothing, it would still be like you're doing something because what I said earlier, but if you die, you're body is doing nothing except lying there being affected by gravity. So it's like you are doing something even if it feels like doing nothing.

Nothing- it is just the most traditional design and similar in layout to a typewriter,which helps some doing it by feel. you know you have one if the keys say that from left to right.

When you say a school is doing well, it means in general, things are good overall. As in, test scores are were they should be, nothing out of order, etc.
