How can paralysis be treated?

As of now, there is no universal "cure" for paralysis. If a person is paralyzed due to an injury of the spinal cord, it is unlikely they will be able to recover enough function to walk on their own again. This is because the nerves which relay messages between the brain and body are severed, and therefore the body is unable to receive motor messages from the brain.

At this point, many different technologies are being developed, from stem cell therapies to actual exoskeleton suits that allow paras with arm function to walk upright. It will be many years before we can definitively answer the question if paralysis can be cured or not.

There are many ways of treating paralysis. Drug therapy is not very satisfactory. Therefore, physiotherapy plays a very important role.
