Lithuania is a Baltic country in Northern Europe, bordered by the Baltic Sea to the west, Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, and Poland and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad to the southwest. It is one of the three Baltic states, along with Latvia and Estonia, and the largest of them by area. Lithuania has a rich history, having been part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and later the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Today, it is a member of the European Union and NATO, with Vilnius as its capital and largest city.
