Shakespeare's plays usually contain some humour. Of course the comedies were light-hearted plays to start with but they also included a bit for a stand-up comedian, who was part of the company. When the Lord Chamberlain's Men was formed in 1594, their comic was the famous Will Kempe. Later Kempe left the company and was replaced with a more sarcastic and less broadly comic comedian called Robert Armin.

Since these comics were part of the company, there had to be a part for them in all the plays somewhere or other. Even the later history plays contain the very funny character Falstaff and his friends at the Boar's Head Tavern. The tragedies as a rule, also contain funny characters: Peter in Romeo and Juliet (which part we know was played by Kempe), the Porter in Macbeth, the Gravedigger in Hamlet, the Fool in King Lear, and Apemantus in Timon are some examples.

Did Shakespeare perform in any other plays than his own?

Yes, we know that he performed in two plays of Ben Jonson's, Sejanus and Every Man Out of his Humour.

What plays did Shakespeare play in when he was an actor?

The only plays we know for sure Shakespeare played in are Jonson's Every Man in His Humour and Sejanus. We don't know what parts Shakespeare played though. He also played in many of the plays he wrote himself, (it says so in the First Folio), but it doesn't say if there were any he didn't act in.

What the play which Shakespeare played in?

Unfortunately it was not common in Shakespeare's day to keep records of what actor played what part in any plays. We are fortunate in that Ben Jonson made a record of the actors who played in his plays Sejanus and Every Man in His Humour, and Shakespeare appeared in both those plays, although the record does not show what part he played. The First Folio also lists actors who played in Shakespeare's plays, including Shakespeare, but not who played in which play nor what part they took.

What was the title of the first play Shakespeare was in?

It seems reasonable that Shakespeare's acting career started before his playwriting career, but that makes this question even more difficult to answer, since we have no record whatsoever of which plays, if any, Shakespeare performed in before 1592. The only plays which we now for sure that he played in were Jonson's Every Man in his Humour and Sejanus. We don't even know what part he played.

What were some plays Shakespeare acted in?

In the First Folio of Shakespeare's plays, he is listed as one of the actors which performed his plays, but that doesn't mean that he performed in all of them (although he probably did). He may have retired from acting before he retired from playwriting. The only plays we know absolutely and for certain that Shakespeare acted in are Jonson's Sejanus and Every Man in his Humour.

Did shakespeare star in other plays besides his own?

He performed in other plays besides his own, certainly. We know he was in two plays by Ben Jonson, Sejanus and Every Man in His Humour. Also, he was not the only playwright working with the King's Men: Fletcher, Middleton and the young Webster also wrote for them. We know from Henslowe that the Chamberlain's Men performed other plays apart from Shakespeare's and Shakespeare, being a member of the company, played in all of them. But he did not star in them. He was a supporting actor, not a star.
