This totally depends on the director. But it is worth noting that it is not as if they had any time to prepare. They probably wore the nicest thing they could easily get their hands on. The director, designer or costume department may choose the colours of the clothing based on the look of the production, its setting, the lighting, and how they want the characters to look against the set.
