The music of the Philippines is rich and varied. History, everyday life, and culture are important parts of Filipino folks songs. "Bahay Kubo," a song most often sang by school children telling of the traditional Filipino rural house and the vegetables one may find in its gardens. "Pakitong- Kitong" speaks of a crab that is delicious, but hard to catch. "Magtanim Ay 'Di Biro" ("Planting Rice is Never Fun") tells all merely by its title. "Aking Bituin" ("My Star") is a popular love song and "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan" ("The Swing of the Cradle") a lullaby. Many other folksongs exist in Filipino culture describing everything from the beauty of the countryside to the evil heart of a man who would stone a sparrow from its perch.
