The hair styles during William Shakespeare's time could be big and elaborate. Queen Elizabeth wore wigs which were curled and dressed with jewels. People who weren't the queen were not quite so opulent. Men's hair was worn fairly long and brushed back. Full beards were the style. Many women also wore their hair pulled back or up in curls. Girls wore their hair long, and free behind.
