She is personified as a sad old lady who has only the memory of when she was happy. She is not happy anymore because she has probably lost a kitten or two when she was younger and nobody likes her because she was a bit stuck up when she was young but now that she is old she is not pretty anymore and nobody will listen to how she feels now.

What is the story line of the musical Cats?

Based on Cats the Musical(movie) It starts on the night that the Jellicle ball is supposed to take place on. The scene is a junkyard with many random items around it and usually has a moon with perculiar lines cutting through it hanging in the sky. The cats come out and begin to sing "Jellicle Sons for Jellicle Cats", which explains what they are, what can do, and what they like to do. Then all the cats come together and say "The Naming of Cats" (a poem by T.S.Elliot), which, if you pay close attention, tells some of the characters names, even if the cat does not get a song. After, the cats finish, the white cat Victoria(or Victorie) does a solo dance, which rings in the beginning of the Jellicle Ball. Quaxo/Mr. Mistofellees (who is either her brother of mate) brings her up magically and the Jellice Ball begins. Munkustrap, the silver/white/black striped tom begins to explain the purpose of the Jellicle Ball, the Heaviside Layer and Deuteronomy(the leader). Then he begins the song about the old Gumbie Cat, Jennyanydots. Basically before here song finished, the Rum Tum Tugger (who is basically a feline Elvis) sashays on stage with heavy guitar music and lots of flamboyant dancing. He performs a flashy number in which he and the other cats sing about how he is never satisfied with anything. Bombalurina(the red cat who dances beside him) is rejected a couple of times, but always comes back to him. Suddenly, the lights dim and Grizabella comes on sage. She had left the tribe as a younger cat and is not accepted by many of the older cats, who wont let the kittens touch her. (Note:IF you look closely during the beginning of this scene, it looks like RTT is saying F*** YOU) Demeter and Bombalurina sing about how everyone rejects her, which the rest of the cats join in on until Grizabella leaves. NExt comes Bustopher Jones, the fattest and the most social of the cats. In contrast to Grizabella, all the cats love him (Note: If you look closely, you can see that Mr. Misto. and Bustopher have similar markings-Misto is Bustopher's nephew) Lightening and scary music anounces a false alarm of MaCavity, the villian cat, but it turns out to be Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer (either bro and sis, or mates). They are petty thieves. They sing a song describing how they work. At the end, the rest of the cats catch them and throw their loot bags away. The music then slows into a sort of lullaby as the leader, Deuteronomy comes in. (Note: Munkustrap and RTT have a great duet here). To amuse Deuteronomy, the cats put on a play narrated by Munkustrap about The Great Rumpus Cat called "The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles, together with some account of the participation of the Pugs and the Poms, and the intervention of the Great Rumpus Cat". There is another MaCavity scare, which agains is a false alarm. Deuteronomy, Victoria, Jemima (the smallest) and Munkustrap call all the other cat back to begin the Jellicle Ball, and slowly the cats come back.("The Invitation to the Jellicle Ball") They begin to describe more about themselves and what they do and like. The Ball begins and the cats all lay down for a "nap" but it is interuppted by the appearance of Grizabella, who is scared off. Deuteronomy reaches out to her ,a sign which is seen as love, but she leaves, not noticing him. Deuteronomy then begins the sing "The Moment of Happiness" and Jemima sings a solo part to the tune of "Memory." Gus the Theater Cat is brought in, and tells about his days as a famous actor and his favorite achievesments with the help of Jellylorum (the tall skinny cat). (Notes: Grizabella and Gus are the two candidates up for being the Jellicle Choice->being sen to the Heaviside Layer, and they telll their stories to Deuteronomy to convince him to send her/him). After Gus is led off, the song "Skimbleshanks" begins. Skimbleshanks is the Scottish train cat who catches the mice on the night trains. During this scene, the cats build a giant replica train out of trash found around the junkyard , which eventually "crashes" and all the cats break apart.Again, there is a MaCavity scare, but his one is real. MaCavity rushes on stage and his henchmen take Deuteronomy. MaCavity laughs evily, then leaves. Demeter and Bombalurina jazzily sing about all the evil deeds MaCavity has commited and how he is untraceable; he is called the "Hidden Paw", the "bafflement of Scotland Yard" and "the flying squad's despair". A fiht ensues after the fight as a fake Deuteronomy lookalike is brougt back, which Demeter reveals to be MaCavity. MaCavity, wounded, overpowers the lights, which burn out, leaving the cats in darkness. A search beam emerges, revealing Demeter and Munkustrap nuzzling heads, and the cats sing "We need to find old Deuteronomy". The spot light shoots over to RTT who is lounging and talks about how the cats should get Mister Mistofelees to help them. Mr. Mistofelees is a tuxedo cat who posses magical powers. RTT sings about them in "Magical Mr. Mistofelees". At the end, Misto uses Cassandra(who is possibly his mate) to bring Deuteronomy back. Jemima begins to sing a reprise of "Memory" and Grizabella comes back in and all the cats reject her once more until after she sings "Memory", a song about her rise to fame and then how every one forgot her, and how she is haunted by the memories of it. Victoria gather enoug hcourage to go to her and touch her, a sign of acceptance. The rest of the cats finally accept her and Deuteronomy chooses her to go up to the Heaviside Layer. The cats gleefully send her on her way to be reborn. "The Journey to the Heavyside Layer" Then Deuteronomy gathers all the cats together, and speaks to the audience telling them about the cats. "The Addressing of Cats". THE END

What is the basic story behind CATS the musical?

All the cats in CATS are having a giant dance but they have to wait for their leader, Deuteronomy, to come before they can begin. As they wait, several of the cats are introduced through songs (The Gumbie Cat, Mungojerrie & Rumpleteaseer, The Rum Tum Tugger, etc.). Eventually, Deuteronomy arrives but is later captured by the bad guy Macavity, but is once again returned to the clan after the magician cat (The Magical Mister Mistofellees) . Deuteronomy's biggest job is to pick the cat that will be reincarnated into another cat every year. There are two candidates that are presented this year: Gus the Theater Cat and Grizabella the Glamour Cat. All of the cats in the clan shun Grizabella because she left the clan to go find fame and fortune but now she is old and unwanted; she sings "Memory". Deuteronomy chooses her and she is sent to the "Heavyside Layer" which is basically the cats' version of heaven. All of the songs in CATS are based off of T.S. Elliot's "Book for Practical Cats" Songs in CATS (the movie in 1998) include: -"Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats" - "Tha Naming of Cats" -"The Gumbie Cat" -"The Rum Tum Tugger" - "Grizabella, The Glamour Cat" - "Bustopher Jones" - "Mungojerrie & Rumpleteaser" - "Old Deuteronomy" - "The Awful Battle of the Peakes and the Pollicles" - "Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball" - "Memory" - "The Moments of Happiness" - "Gus the Theater Cat" - "Skimbleshanks, the Railway Cat" - "Macavity: the Mystery Cat" - "Magical Mister Mistoffelees" - "Memory: Reprise" - "The Journey to the Heavyside Layer" - "The Addressing of Cats"
