You might think that Tybalt is acting in this way, but he's not, for two reasons. First, there is no threat from the Montagues that the Capulets need protection from. It is the Capulets who are causing the trouble and the Montagues are responding. The biggest troublemaker is Tybalt himself. "I'm trying to protect my family from those people who are defending themselves against my unprovoked attacks" should make people raise their eyebrows. (I guess it has been said before, by Hitler, George W Bush, etc.) The second reason why Tybalt is not being protective of his family is that the Capulets are not really his family. When your auntie marries into someone's family you do not become a part of that family.
