Well, the theme is love, of course, but also fate in the sense of bad luck. People argue endlessly and pointlessly about whose fault Romeo and Juliet's deaths were, but you cannot deny that they had some really bad luck which pushed them to their end.
As for "what was the lesson learned by the main character and you", this sounds like the kind of silly question a teacher might ask, just to make you annoyed. As I hope you know, there is more than one main character in the play, and at the end they have not learned any lessons, since they are both dead. The lesson I hope you have learned is "watching Shakespeare's plays is fun, 'cause they're full of loving and fighting and dying and awesome speeches". If you have not got that lesson, your teacher did a poor job of presenting the play to you. If your teacher thinks that the lesson you are supposed to learn is something like "Let your parents arrange your marriage", then your teacher needs to learn that watching Shakespeare's plays is fun, 'cause they're full of loving and fighting etc. (and they don't teach moral lessons).
Communication is important. A+
The Capulets and Montagues learned that their feuding is unnecessary. Since it resulted in so many deaths, they learn their lesson after discovering that Romeo and Juliet (and a few others) have died as a result of their issues. At the end, they make statues to remember the people that died.
In Lesson 5 of "Romeo and Juliet," Romeo should be pardoned for his impulsive actions driven by love and the intense emotions surrounding the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. His killing of Tybalt, while tragic, was a reaction to the death of Mercutio, and he did not intend to escalate the violence. Juliet, too, deserves mercy for her desperate choices, as they are rooted in her loyalty to Romeo and her desire for peace. Ultimately, both characters are victims of their circumstances rather than malicious individuals.
In the Miss Universe 1993 pageant, Dayanara Torres was asked, "What is the most important lesson you have learned in your life?" She answered that the most important lesson she had learned was to always have faith in herself and that believing in oneself is crucial to achieving one's dreams. Her response highlighted the importance of self-confidence and perseverance.

just think about what lesson you learned or the character learned in the story
One important lesson from Romeo and Juliet's actions is the destructive power of feuding and hatred between families. Their love was overshadowed by the conflict between the Montagues and Capulets, leading to tragic consequences for both families.
