Tatamkhulu Afrika was born in Egypt in 1920. His family moved to South Africa where he spent the rest of his life. South Africa operated a system of control called Aparthied. This word means Seperateness. So, black people were not allowed to mix with white people and inter-marriage was made criminal(!). There were seperate areas on public transport. Many public places were white only. Tatamkulu protested all his life about this injustice and aparthied has been legally abolished in South Africa but there is still a long way to go meaning that nothings changed. This is why his poem is called nothings changed because just one place is not a big enough impact so it is like nothing's changed..

its about a man who gives money to a beggar but first walks past him without giving it. The beggar is more kind than the man who gives him the money. In the beginning of the peom the sun is the enemy of the beggar but at the end the sun helps the beggar which suggest nature is most powerful. The man who gave the money, it shows that no ones situation was improved.
