There are two different castles. The castle at Inverness was Macbeth's home before he became king. After becoming king, he had access to a number of different castles, including Dunsinane, which is in the south on the Firth of Forth.

No, most of the Shakespearean play didn't take place at the Macbeths' home in Inverness Castle. Scenes 5-7 of Act 1, and all of Act 2 took place in and around the Castle. But once he became King of Scotland, Macbeth moved into the royal residences of Forres and Dunsinane.

What city in Scotland does Macbeth take place?

Macbeth does not take place in a city exactly. The first scenes are thought to be near the town of Forres. Macbeth's castle, at which Duncan is killed, is at Inverness, which is a city, although the castle is not exactly in the city. (Duncan says "the air nimbly and sweetly recommends itself" which would not be true in a city). The later scenes are at the castle at Dunsinane, which is also in the country.

What is the name of Macbeth's castle?

In the play, Macbeth as king fights his last battle against Macduff, thane of Fife. Macduff kills and beheads Macbeth. The battle takes place near Macbeth's royal castle at Dunsinane. But according to the Chronicles by Raphael Holinshed [d. 1580], King Macbeth was wounded during the battle of Lumphanan against the forces of the future King Malcolm III [d. November 13, 1093]. He died from those injuries a few days later, on August 15, 1057, about 60 miles away, in Scone where he had been crowned in 1040. King Macbeth was buried in the royal burial ground for kings of Scotland, Norway, and Ireland just off the west coast of Scotland, on the island of Iona. Also named Saint Columba's Island, the isle was the last resting place of King Duncan I [d. August 14, 1040], who had had King Macbeth's father killed and whom King Macbeth in turn had killed in battle.
