I am not sure if this is possible in Windows, but in a Mac all you have to do is press the close button (instead of Quitting Opera) and downloads will continue.

Mouse gestures can be incorporated into Microsofts Internet Explorer 7 through an add-on. The program allows you to control the browser by making "gestures" with the mouse while holding the right click button down.
