Spoiler Alert!

At the end of Pretties, Zane finds out that his headaches are a result of the pill he took in the beginning of the novel. He gambled by taking only one of them, and got the wrong one. The nanobots in it ate the lesions in his brain, ending his bubbleheadedness, but then they had no commands to stop and kept reproducing, eating away at the tissue.

The Specials stopped the destruction of his brain tissue when he came into the hospital with his broken hand (when Tally rushes him, unconscious, to the hospital after they discover Shay's new "cure" [cutting] and he's fine, they need a reason for rushing there and so he breaks his knuckles), placing a tracker in his back molar and programming it to send out pain so that he won't be suspicious.

Zane and Tally use long, insulated gloves to get their interface cuffs off (they slip them on under the cuffs and then stick their hands into the fires of the hot-air balloon they "borrow," thereby expanding the metal just enough [heat makes metal expand] that they could slip them off). Then they escape to the New Smoke, still not aware of the tracker in Zane's tooth.

Tally and Zane get separated, and when Tally finds Zane in the New Smoke, he's in pretty bad shape. His brain is failing, the areas that control memory and cognition eaten away by the nanos. Tally discovers that she actually cured herself (considering that the pill she took would have no effect without its mate).

Then the Specials swoop in, although not in time to catch the New Smoke (they abandon Tally and Zane because of the tracker and Tally's absolute refusal to leave him) and they realize too late that the tracker is bonded into Zane's jawbone. Zane is taken away by Special Circumstances, presumably to the hospital, and Tally gets captured by Shay, who is now Special, and the historic cliffhanger is uttered, "Face it, Tally-wa, you're Special" (Westerfeld 370).

The third book is called Specials, the fourth Extras. An excellent series all-around.

I'd say it would start when Jace goes after Valentine and "Sebastian", then Jace and Sebastian get in the fight.

The highest point is probably when Jace dies, then is brought back to life.

However, it's debatable. The whole book is very exciting. =D

What is the highlight of pretties by Scott westerfeld?

The highlight of my novel PRETTIES isimagery, I can picture what I am reading in my head. When the main parts of the story come up I can picture the setting, charactors and the tone of the voices in my head. For example when all the teens where at the semi formal at the mansion i pictured ball gowns and colors and the mansion and one person standing out not dressed up wearing ragged clothes. I believe imagery is the highlight of my book because it takes place in many important places with very many descriptions to put together in your mind. Also another highlight in PRETTIES is the character's The description of that characters can reminded me of people I know that do not give up. For example Zane was described as charming, a great ball dancer and can have a clean cut. I used this example because it all suited Zane's personality from hilarious to serious These are my two main highlights in my book PRETTIES. By: Jaimie Tufford
