The Charleston dance was created by people in a black community who lived outside of the state Charleston. The Charleston was the main dance in the 1920's. The Charleston reached it's peak of popularity in 1923, when it appeared in the broadway show "Runnin' Wild". It's danced to ragtime music. The Charleston was banned from various halls as it was thought to be to scandalous and exuberant. Women wore short dresses and men wore long-backed suits.
Jazz can be any kind of upbeat series of movements. This might sound just like contemporary (modern) dancing but actually, try doing the 1970's Charleston (which is classified as jazz dance) to Like a G6! Modern dances are used with more modern songs and movements. The way modern dance is danced changes depending on the time. Does this make sense? In other words, in the 1920s the Charleston was considered a modern dance. Now that doesn't mean that doing a dance to Like a G6 wouldn't be jazz. It could be a variety of dance subjects. It really just depends on which type of dance best suits the movements and song. -Thank you!
Because like peer pressure, a few people began doing it and then it suddenly became popular enough to get different types of names, internet pages/websites, and even groups of people who study it like me.

The people from Moncada adapted the dance and through time, created their own version uniquely Filipino, calling it La Jota Moncadena. The use of bamboo castanets make the dance lively and delightful to watch.
Major ballet companies do not usually focus on one particular technique, such as RAD. This is only one style to keep the standard and process of assessing an individuals technique. Major ballet companies prefer rounded techniques that an individual has formed over a period of time. A style that suits their particular body shape and abilities. This may be RAD orVaganova, Chechetti and Paris Oprea styles. All of which usually demand a very high standard when being assessed at a high level (vocational level).
