Luciano Pavarotti is an opera singer. A very famous one at that. It is reported that the great tenor, Placido Domingo, holds the record number of curtain call bows, which occurred at the Vienna State Opera: a record number 87 curtain calls! Jose' Carreras was dying from cancer, when his doctors told him he would not live much longer. From that time, he lived at least a quarter century, and gave concert and operatic appearances far beyond his anticipated death! From an historical standpoint, Enrico Caruso was undoubtedly the greatest opera singer of all time! From a singing artist's aesthetic point of view, Mario Lanza was without question the most beautiful tenor voice of the previous century, who was also the singing idol of the world's three greatest operatic tenors at the close of the 20th century; viz., Luciano Pavarotti, Jose' Carreras, and Placido Domingo. The celebrated Italian conductor, Arturo Toscanini [who conducted all his operatic and symphonic scores from memory!], declared that Mario Lanza had the greatest tenor singing voice of the 20th century! Probably the greatest soprano singers of the 20th century were Maria Callas and Renata Tebaldi, the latter singer who was said to have the "voice of an Angel!" by many musical intelligentsia. The German born, American Basso Cantante i Profundo, Jerome Hines, has the longest continuous career at the Metropolitan Opera: a fantastic 41 seasons! Mr. Hines did not begin to sing until he had graduated with his Master's degree in Chemistry from UCLA, and sang his last professional concert in his 80th year! He also composed his own opera, "I Am the Way," on the life of Christ, which had over one hundred performances, worldwide, before his death in 2003.
"'O sole mio" is a globally known Neapolitan song written in 1898. It has been performed and covered by many artists, including such stalwarts of opera as Enrico Caruso, Beniamino Gigli, Mario Lanza, The Three Tenors, as well as rock/pop artists such as Bryan Adams, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Vitas (who sings it in a high countertenor range) and Elvis Presley. Luciano Pavarotti won the 1980 Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Performance for his rendition of 'O Sole Mio. The lyrics were written by Giovanni Capurro, and the melody was composed by Eduardo di Capua. Though there are versions in other languages, 'O sole mio is usually sung in the original Neapolitan language. 'O sole mio is the Neapolitan equivalent of Standard Italian Il sole mio and translates literally as "My Sun" (not "Oh My Sun").
In April 1959, Lanza suffered a minor heart attack, followed by double pneumonia in August. He died in Rome in October of that year at the age of 38 from a pulmonary embolism.

There were several Caruso films. I do not believe Mr. Pavarotti was active musically at the time. One, the Young Caruso featured the Rose of Fair Italy as the lead female character!
Possibly Lanza, but Caruso died in 1921.
Pavarotti originally wanted to become a professional football goalkeeper. Hi earliest musical influences were his father's recordings, most of them featuring the popular tenors of the day - Beniamino Gigli, Giovanni Martinelli, Tito Schipa and Enrico Caruso. Pavarotti's favorite tenor and idol was Giuseppe Di Stefano. He was also deeply influenced by Mario Lanza. At around the age of nine he began singing with his father in a small local church choir.
The song was written in 1898, many artists have sung it, including Liciano Pavarotti, Enrico Caruso, Mario Lanza, Brian Adams, Elvis Presley and Beniamino Gigli

Louis B. Mayer is a nonsense but it has been suggested to me that it is none other than Pavarotti. IMDB offers no answer. I cannot believe that that that boy is 16 years old (as was Pavarotti in 1951) with a voice that is unbroken???
Mario Lanza The American Caruso - 1983 TV is rated/received certificates of: USA:G
Mario Lanza has sang Ave Maria in many places. He performed it during almost all of his concerts since it was his biggest hit.
