there are two main categories that ballroom dance is divided into: Ballroom/standard and Latin American. Ballroom/Standard has five dances within its category that are the Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango and the Viennesse Waltz, the Latin American category also has five dances that are the Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba Paso Doble and the Jive (the Jive is why its Latin AMERICAN, not just Latin) theres other dances known as sequence dances that are in two categories as well, New Vogue and Old Time/Classical Sequence. in these groups i cannot remember how many dances are in each, nor am I going to attempt to name them but what makes them different is that all the dancers have the one routine, there is no variation on it and they are judged in copetitions by floor prescence, footwork, posture etc.
Hope i helped.
The terms Ethnic and Traditional dance are used when it is required to emphasize the cultural roots of the dance. It this sense, nearly all folk dances are ethnic ones. Even if some dances, such as Polka, cross ethnic boundaries (and even cross the boundary between Folk and Ballroom dance!), ethnical differences are often considerable enough to speak of, e.g., "Czech Polka" vs. "German Polka".On the contrary, not all ethnic dances are folk ones. The simplest example are ritual dances or dances of ritual origin.

Italy. In fact the verb "to dance" in Italian is ballare, related to ballet. The Italians were more focused on the opera part of the performing arts and not so much on the ballet. The French took the idea of ballet and expanded. Along with came the French wording of the steps (e.g., grand jeté = big jump).Ballet's origin is from Italy, later France, then Russia, all have different styles and points of concentration. Russia is all about the arms and France is about the straightening of the legs.
If it has a certain style and culture associated with it, consider it an ethnic dance. Basically you can think of all dance as "ethnic" dance. The one thing to consider is how ballroom in particular has been mainstreamed into a commercial form of dance. However, if you research the early years of ballroom dance you will find that it is indeed "ethnic"

You can go all around to ballroom dance. Depending on where you are from, your area should have a ballroom dance web site that has links to the dance schools locally such as http://www.ballroomdancingdirectory.com or http://ballroomdancers.com .

Ballroom and Latin dancers always improve by practice my way of answering this question is what way do dancers move when you improve. You will always climb one step up the ladder but there is always another step waiting for you. By listening and practicing what you have learned some day I assure you all the hard work will have payed off because you will be the best ballroom or Latin dancers in the world!

It all depends on what type of dancing you are interested in. Visting websties that have tutorials on ballroom dancing will teach you how to ballroom dance.
Very broad question. Including commercial dancers, Ballet dancers,Contemporary dancers,Broadway dancers, Hip Hop dancers, Latin American dancers, Ballroom dancers, Exotic dancers? Lots & lots. And that's not including the teachers. Even more including them.
