Well for a start define determinism Every action has a cause, a part of the causal chain so you have no choices, no free will. Every action is caused by something. You are not held responsible for any of your actions For example: You are brought uo in an abusive household and so you will go on to abuse your own family. You will not be held morally responsible for your actions because that is how you were raised, you did not choose to be that way. Those who believe on free will will argue that the person had e choice to be abusive to their own family, they could have chosen to seek help and deal with the problem but they chose not to, Another idea is that of genetics, Say alchoholism runs in the family, it is in your DNA you cannot be held responsbile for beong an alchoholic because it is a genetic predisoition. It is INHERITED and yiu cannot control or choose your genes. I hope this made sense!! If it doesnt then i will fail my philosophy exam (!) so i hope it does. Haha

Why does determinism not disprove religion?

Because there is nothing about religion that is testable; in other words, religion cannot be disproven at all, not just when compared with determinism. For that matter, determinism is a broad and general theory, or perhaps philosophy, that itself is rather difficult to test on a scale comparable to something like religion. On a much smaller scale, determinism is really the nature of many research conclusions. For example, it can be determined that heating a gas will cause its volume to increase.
