Do you mean the chariot thing before Oedipus became king of Thebes? If so, the drunk guy was his actual father Laius. Because Oedipus wouldn't get out of Laius' way, Laius ran over him with his chariot. Oedipus got mad and killed him. But, since Oedipus didn't know who Laius was, he had no idea that he had killed his father (since he thought his Corinthian adoptive father Polybus was his biological father). Ironically, he was leaving home so he wouldn't kill his father. I hope that helps :)
An unnamed dinner guest is the person who makes Oedipus question his identity and that of his parents in "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. -- 405 B.C.E.).Specifically, the guest drinks too much at a dinner in Corinth. He says that Oedipus is not really Corinthian King Polybus' son. Despite the fact that the man is drunk from too much wine, Oedipus is upset and begins to question who he really is and who his parents really are.
That the drunk says that Oedipus is adopted and that Oedipus loves and feels loved by his presumed parents are the reasons why his story bothers Oedipus in "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. - 405 B.C.E.).Specifically, a drunk attends a banquet at the Corinthian royal palace. He reveals that Oedipus is not the biological son of Corinthian monarchs Polybus and Merope. This startles and upsets Oedipus, who believes himself to be the greatly loved son and heir apparent of his presumed parents.
Some man at a banquet who had drunk too much shouted out that Oedipus is not his father's son.
It is from the Corinthian messenger and Thebanshepherd that Oedipus finds out about his past in "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. - 405 B.C.E.).Specifically, Oedipus starts adulthood with unanswered and unpursued questions about his parentage. For example, a drunk at the Corinthian banquet says that Oedipus is not the biological son of his presumed parents, Corinthian monarchs Polybus and Merope. Then almost twenty years later, Teiresias the blind prophet reveals that Oedipus is the killer of his king and his father. But it is not until the information from the Corinthian messenger and the interrogation of the Theban shepherd that Oedipus puts together his past as King Laius' son and killer and as Queen Jocasta's husband and son.
The chorus of 'Oedipus Rex' wants the gods to save their city of Thebes from the plague. But they don't want a military solution to the crisis. In fact, they specify that the war god Ares' presence and input are unwelcome. They even go so far as to welcome the wine god Bacchus' getting soldiers too drunk to be able to carry out any military intervention on Ares' behalf.
