All,

As a Writer Of The Month, 1998, I say let us do not slam nor flame Nancy Imelda Schaefer. If you Google her name, you will see that she has gained a "paying" position of IT person for her company.

I doubt that she has time enough to maintain her

"Spyder's Poetry Empire and Phenomenal Women of the Web" website as she is working a full time job and has a daughter who needs her care.

Spyder (Nancy) was always very kind to me and we all should remember that her life includes some very trying times. Haven't we all experienced trying times? If not, then why are we "attempting" to write poetry/prose? Hasn't every word and phrase already been written/said? There are no new words . . . .

Lainie Akin

(Spyder, I hope you remember me.)

You can browse archives of the site going way back to 1997 at "The Way Back Machine" here:

http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

Then type in www.spydersempire.com click the logo or where the logo should be if the graphic doesn't load.

Also you can find some of the same poets at www.pathetic.org

As for what happened to Spyder's Poetry Empire, I am unsure.

Nancy Imelda Schafer was apparently not very good at tracking IP address's, she had ban several members under the premise they had been posting spam and harrassing messages. Toward the end the boards were cluttered with spam and harrassing messages, many of whom claimed to be members who were wrongfuly banned and/ or slandered. It was apparent that this may have indeed been the case when she tracked all those posts to one of her close friends on the site and then made a big show of proclaiming her friend the sole culprit. Upon closer investigation it was learned that these IP address's were all from proxy servers, mostly AOL users, meaning she was targeting many differant users who had the same IP address. This exposed Nancy aka Spyder as possibly having banned previous members under false pretenses. This was the claim of many of the harrasers, and that she had gone on to slander them with claims of wrong doings on other websites. So, one day the website went offline and then came back periodicaly but without the ability to post. My guess is that she was so ashamed and embaressed by the realisation of proxy servers and having possibly wrongly accused members of harrasing actions, that she lost the will to continue running the site.
