These dates have been picked somewhat randomly. Nothing much happened to Shakespeare in 1608 which would make it an important date in his life. This was the year in which he invested in the Blackfriars Theatre. On the other hand, 1594 is an important date in his life because that is when he became a partner in The Lord Chamberlain's Men. However, he continued as a partner in the company until his retirement in 1613.

Shakespeare's working life as a dramatist lasted about 23 years, from 1590 approximately to 1613. The fifteen years from 1594 to 1608 fall right in the middle of his career, during his most productive years. However, such well-loved plays as Richard III, the Taming of the Shrew and The Tempest were written outside of this period.

What was the name of the theatre where Shakespeare's plays perform?

Shakespeare performed in a number of Theatres. Before 1594, he may have been with Lord Strange's Men when they played Titus Andronicus at the Rose. After 1594, when the Lord Chamberlain's Men were formed, they performed at the Theatre until it was closed, then at The Curtain until the Globe was built in 1599. Shakespeare's plays were also played at the Blackfriars after 1608. Many people do not understand that Shakespeare had already completed one-third of his career before the Globe Theatre was even built.

When was Shakespeare's theater in London opened?

Shakespeare held shares in two different theatres, but he was not the major shareholder in either of them. It is therefore misleading to speak of "Shakespeare's Theare" as if he actually owned it. The theatre most associated with Shakespeare is the first Globe, which was built in 1599, when Shakespeare was about halfway through his career. It was built by Peter Street and was mostly owned by Richard and Cuthbert Burbage. The Burbages also owned the Blackfriars Theatre in which Shakespeare invested. The Lord Chamberlain's Men began using it in 1608. Other theatres which we know Shakespeare to be associated with include the Curtain and Theatre which were used by The Lord Chamberlain's Men between 1594 and 1599.
