Elphaba was originally played by Idina Menzel. She left the production on 9 January 2005, at the end of her contract, to persue other projects. Caissie Levy starred in the Broadway production as an understudy for the role, which I'm assuming is when you saw her if you are talking about the Broadway production. However, she later played the lead role in the Los Angeles company.

It's about a girl named Elphaba who turned green from an elixir that her mother drank (That the wizard gave her) and on accident she became pregnant with Elphaba. Then her sister Nessa when her mother was pregnant her father made her chew on Milkweed so that Nessa wasn't green like her sister. Many years later. . they arrive at Shiz academy where Elphaba goes to take care of Nessa, and to go to school. Then Galinda (Ga-lin-da) On accident she gets the same dormitory as Elphaba. They become great friends but then she goes to the wizard and the wizard make her turn helpless animals into flying monkeys! Then one of the monkeys was her professor that she loved that was a goat Dr.Dillamond! She went away from the angry guards after her Did I mention she was with Glinda! And they got into the janitors room and Elphaba made one of the brooms fly and she told Galinda to go with her.And also be on the dark side of oz but glinda said no. So Glinda goes to the wizard again and figures out that she's his daughter! but she told him their was one catch. . . He had to let the monkeys free! so he did and Fiyero was married to Glinda and elphaba stole him away from her and so another guy Boq is with nessa and nessa does a spell on boq that made his heart shrink . . . and elphaba turned him into a tin man!!!!! Then later on accident she turned Fiyero into a Scarecrow with these a words:Elekamn tum a tum melikaman. and then her sister falls dead from Dorothy and the cyclone and she gets the red shoes then elphaba and Glinda slap each other and then fiyero and elphaba when they think the witch dies, she doesn't. They put a trap door in the floor and she went away with the scarecrow to earth. If you want to learn more about Wicked, go see it for yourself!!!I did. It was amazing!!!!!!The musical 'Wicked' is the untold story of the witches of Oz. At the beginning of the musical (song: No One Mourns the Wicked), a married lady has an affair with another man, and Elphaba (the wicked witch of the west) is born. However, everyone is shocked and frightened because she is born with green skin. Elphaba's mother dies in childbirth when she gives birth for the second time, to Nessarose (this time the baby was of the husband's, so Nessa and Elphaba are actually half-sisters). Nessarose is in a wheelchair because her mother wanted to make sure Nessa wasn't green too, so she chewed and chewed and chewed this plant that would make sure she wasn't green, but the plant caused Nessa to be born premature, so her legs weren't strong enough.Anyway, the beginning of the story is when Elphaba arrives at Shiz university (Song: Dear old shiz) and everybody is frightened of her because of her skin. She meets a girl named Galinda (later known as Glinda) who is spoilt, unkind, self-centred and most of all, very popular. Galinda and Elphaba hate each other as soon as they meet each other (song: What is This Feeling?). The two girls are also put together in a room, making both of them loathe the other even more, and when Elphaba becomes extremely angry with her, her magical powers accidentally burst out of controll. The headmistress, Madame Morrible sees this, and when Elphaba apoligises, becoming panicked that she will be expelled for her actions, Madame Morrible congratulates her and is awed at such magic that Elphaba posseses. Morrible declares that she will write to the Wonderful Wizard of Oz immediately, telling him of the student's powers. She also tells Elphaba that the Wizard could make her his 'Magic Grand Vizier'. Elphaba realises that she has a rare talent and that she must cherish and practice it. (Song: The Wizard and I)In one of her lessons, Elphaba meets Dr Dillamond. Dr Dillamond is half goat, half human. Many of the other students take the micky out of the professor, but Elphaba feels sorry for him. Galinda gets very annoyed with him because he can not say her name correctly (he says 'Gllinda' as apposed to 'Galinda' so after the lesson, she goes and talks to him. He tells her that something bad is happening to the animals of Oz, that they are no longer permitted to teach, or even speak. Elphaba reassures him that nothing all that bad is going to happen if they tell the Wizard. (Song: Something Bad)Later on, she meets Fiyero (pronounced fee-air-o). Fiyero is a lot like Galinda: stubborn, self-centered, popular - and extremely gorgous. Galinda and Fiyero meet and they fall in love. They decide to go to a party that night and Elphaba and the other students come along too. (Song: Dancing Through Life) A munchkin named Boq asks Galinda to dance with him, but she's truly bessoted with Fiyero, so she introduces Nessarose to him and exaggerates how sorry she feels for Nessa, being in a wheelchair. Galinda tells Boq that he would be her hero if he invited her so that she could for once in her life have a fun night. Boq then talks to Nessa and asks her out. Nessa falls in love with him - but Boq still loves Galinda.Later on, at the party, Elphaba turns up and starts dancing (well, trying to dance, since everyone in the ballroom is just staring at her because of her weird skin - and hilariously awful dancing). Galinda goes over to her and shows her how to do it. they begin to dance together and become friends. After the party Galinda attemts to make her new friend 'popular' by giving her a makeover. Elphaba (or Elphie, as Galinda begins to call her) is uncomfortable with this, but Galinda assures her that it will work. (Song: Popular)The next day, in lessons, Fiyero sees Elphaba with her makeover. He is shocked, and says that she has been 'Galindafyed'. He tells her that she doesn't have to do that. Embarresed, Elphaba takes the flower out of her hair and attempts to put herself back to normal. In the lesson, Elphaba and Fiyero discover that Dr Dillamond has been replaced, and they have a monstruos teacher who brings in a lion cub in a cage. When he is just about to start torturing it, Elphaba and Fiyero snatch the cage and run out of the University grounds, planning to set it free. They are panicking, and when Fiyero decides to go back and get help, Elphaba grabs his hand and tells him not to. They both realise that they are holding hands and they stare at each other for a moment. Fiyero, embarresed, says that he has to go, and he leaves Elphaba to find her way back. Elphaba discovers that she has fallen in love with him, and is sad because they can't be together. (Song:I'm Not That Girl)Madame Morrible tells Elphaba that she has had word from the Wizard, and that he says he would most like to meet her. Elphaba and Glinda (now 'Glinda', not 'Gaaalinda', in memory of Dr Dillamond who couldn't say the 'Gaaa' bit in her name) go to the Emerald City to see the Great Oz. They find the Wizard and dicover that, under all of his fine words and his marvellous reputation, he is a coward, and that he wants to use Elphaba's magic for his own ends. They also dicover that he is keeping monkeys with wings trapped in a cage - like Dr Dillamond had said. Elphaba and Glinda run away, with the Wizard's men chasing after them. Elphaba tries to perform a levitation spell so that she and Glinda can fly away. She produces a magic broom and asks Glinda to fly away with her on it, but Glinda is scared, and wishes her luck. Elphaba flys away, leaving the land of Oz terror stricken by 'The Wicked Witch of the West'. (Song: Defying Gravity)Interval(Song: No One Mourns the Wicked (reprise)) Glinda's name is cleared and she pretends to be against Elphaba, saying that she is wicked. Glinda and Morrible hold a press conference to announce Glinda's surprise engagement to Fiyero aswell - which Fiyero doesn't know about. Rumour has spread like wildfire in Oz, with people believing things about Elphaba like 'her soul is so unclean clear water can melt her'. Fiyero is upset and angry by these comments, and it becomes clear that he has fallen in love with her also.Meanwhile, Elphaba goes to seek refuge at the Govorner's Residence where Nessarose is, and finds that Nessa's father has died, and she has enslaved all of the munchkins (including Boq) into service to her. Nessarose critisizes Elphaba, saying that she should have used her powers to help her body be stronger. Guilty, Elphaba enchants Nessarose's ruby-red slippers, enabling her to walk. Boq, Nessarose's servant, is summoned and reveals that his affection for Nessarose was not real and his heart lies with Glinda. Furious, Nessarose casts a spell causing Boqs heart to shrink. In an attempt to save him, Elphaba accidentally turns his body to metal, making him the Tin Woodman. Horrified, Nessa lays the blame on Elphaba.Elphaba returns to the Wizard's palace in order to free the rest of the winged monkeys. The Wizard attempts to regain her favor by agreeing to set them free (song: Wonderful). After discovering a now-speechless Doctor Dillamond imprisoned among the monkeys, Elphaba rejects his offer and attempts to escape, but runs into Fiyero and Glinda. Fiyero tells Elphaba that his is in love with her, and she tells him the same. They run off together, and Glinda is heartbroken (song: I'm Not That Girl (reprise)). In an attempt to capture Elphaba once and for all, Madame Morrible decides to create a cyclone that will endanger Nessarose. In a dark forest, Fiyero and Elphaba express their love (song: As Long As Your Mine), but Elphaba senses that her sister is in danger, and flies away to help. She gets there too late though, arriving to find Nessarose crushed underneath a house and just as Glinda sends Dorothy and Toto off along the yellow brick road. The palace guards capture Elphaba, but Fiyero intervenes and allows Elphaba to escape before surrendering himself. The guards tie him to a wooden post, leaving him in the middle of a cornfeild to be tortured for information. Elphaba desparately tries to cast any spell that could save Fiyero (song: No Good Deed), but, thinking that she cannot save him, she begins to accept her reputation as 'Wicked'.Meanwhile, the Citizens of Oz and Boq prepare a witch-hunt ("March of the Witch Hunters"). Seeing this, Glinda travels to Elphaba's castle to persuade her to let Dorothy go, but Elphaba refuses. She makes Glinda promise not to clear her name and to take charge in Oz, and the two confirm a true friendship (song: For Good). As the mob arrives at the castle, Dorothy runs in and throws a bucket of water on Elphaba, melting her. Glinda, unsure of what has happened, sees that all that remains of her friend is her black hat and elixir vial. After mourning Elphaba's death, Glinda takes the elixir vial to the Wizard, revealing the fact that he is Elphaba's father after having had an affair with her mother. Glinda tells the Wizard to leave Oz in his balloon and sends Madame Morrible to prison.Fiyero, whom Elphaba had in fact managed to save by turning him into the scarecrow, opens a trapdoor in Elphaba's castle. Elphaba, very much alive, emerges, revealing that the melting was just an act and the two are happily reunited. The two lovers escape Oz and run away to a far-away land to be together, and Glinda is left in charge of the Land of Oz.Curtain FallsHappy reading :)

What was the wicked witch's name in Wicked?

In Wicked there are really not any wicked witches, just misunderstood girls with magical powers. Elphaba is a college student who was born green and was loved by no one. Because of this, she was considered misunderstood. Being misunderstood and unloved gave her a bitter feeling and she became the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wicked Witch of the East is Elphaba's younger sister who was once paralyzed. Her name is Nessarose. She becomes wicked in an act of selfishness in trying to save her boyfriend from death. None of the typical witches are wicked. The wicked witch of the west is Elphaba is just missunderstood and that's what the whole musical is about. Then there is Nessarose who is Elphaba's sister but she is seen as the wicked witch of the east because she made a selfish descision to keep her love. Then of course there is Glinda, who isn't really Wicked but very selfish sometimes and a little bit self-centered.

Is the wizard Elphaba's or Glinda's father in the musical Wicked?

No one is Elphaba Thropp's husband in either the book or the stage versions of 'Wicked'. She's in love with Prince Fiyero. In the original book version by Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954], Fiyero is married unhappily to Sarima. But in the musical, he isn't married.

What does the letter that Fiyero gives to Elphaba Thropp say in 'Wicked'?

That he lives because of her spell, that it is better for others not to know of his survival and that he has plans for the two of them are what Fiyero's letter says to Elphaba in "Wicked."Specifically, the letter is an incident in the musical version, not the original book edition, of "Wicked." It is a prop whose contents are not read word for word onstage. The audience gets the gist of the contents through Elphaba reading it to herself and summarizing its contents out loud.

What causes Elphaba Thropp to become 'Wicked'?

Elphaba Thropp is not wicked in "Wicked."Instead, it is Elphaba's reputation that becomes wicked. The reason lies in the rumors spread against her by such powerful enemies as the Wizard and Madame Morrible. Some people believe the lies and rumors just because Elphaba is quite different with her green skin. Others fear the consequences if they try to defend her or put a stop to the character defamation.

What are the conflicts in the musical 'Wicked'?

Where Elphaba Thropp fits into the scheme of things is the problem in both the book and the stage versions of 'Wicked'. Specifically, Elphaba doesn't fit into society because of her unusual, green tinted skin. Neither does she fit into school because of her compassion for non humans. Nor does she fit into family because of her being the biological result of her mother's extramarital affair with the Wizard of Oz.The problem is solved, in the book and the play, by Elphaba's removal from the immediate scene. In the original book and the musical, Elphaba appears to die under a steadily fatal stream of water. But in the book and the musical, there's the possibility that she'll come back.

In the book Witch by Gregory Maguire did Elphaba kill Yifero?

Well, actually, I think you are a little mixed up. A better way of phrasing that question would be this: In the book Wickedby Gregory Maguire, did Elphaba kill Fiyero? Elphaba didn't kill Fiyero, but he did die because of her. It's a fine line. Elphaba is on a mission. Fiyero finds out about the mission and she beggs him not to. Fiyero is killed in the cross fire. While Elphaba didn't kill Fiyero she blamed herself for his death until the day that she died.

What is wicked about detailed?

Wicked is the untold story of Oz's Wicked Witch of the west also known as Elphaba. At birth Elphaba was different her mother died at the sight of her. Her whole life is spent caring for her sister Nessa up until college. Elphaba untended Chiz University. The only risen she got in was because her father was the Governor of munchkin land. There at Chiz she meets Glinda (Glinda the Good Witch of the North). Strangely Glinda and Elphaba are to share the same room.

What happened to the original 95 Theses?

The original 95 Theses was discontinued because the customers were upset that is was not as good as the other products that other companies were making unfortunately.

Why did Elphaba try to avoid Fiyero?

In the musical, she didn't avoid Fiyero much. In the book, she tried to avoid Fiyero simply because she was dangerous to be around and didn't want anyone in danger, as well as the fact that Elphaba Thropp had been MIA for some time and wanted to keep it that way.

If Elphaba isn't wicked til after Fiyero gets captured why is she so horrible to Dorothy before that?

its because Dorothy has nessa's slippers. elphaba wanted those slippers just to remember nessa's existance. Elphaba wasn't completely wicked, she became wicked after she admits it. All Those good deeds she kept doing went bad to worse. So might as well take advantage of a bad deed to make sense of who she is (was).

What is the synopsis of the musical 'Wicked'?

Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Their friendship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace. The plot is set mostly prior to Dorothy's arrival from Kansas, and also includes several references to well-known scenes and dialogue in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. here is a more detailed look at the whole play... Act I The citizens of Oz celebrate the death of the Wicked Witch of the West, outside of the Wizard's Palace. Glinda descends in her gleaming bubble to confirm the circumstances of the Witch's melting ("No One Mourns the Wicked"). The scene then shifts to the birth, years earlier, of the green-skinned Elphaba Thropp, who will later become the Wicked Witch of the West. Elphaba, the daughter of the governor of Munchkinland, suffers an unhappy childhood, facing discrimination because of her skin color and being raised by only her father. At Shiz University, Galinda Upland first encounters Elphaba ("Dear Old Shiz"). In a moment of anger, as she is told she will be rooming with the spoiled and popular Galinda, Elphaba - whose father sent her to the university to care for her disabled sister Nessarose - accidentally reveals an innate magical talent. This impresses Madame Morrible, the "headshiztress" of Shiz, who notes that Elphaba's talents may be of use to the Wizard of Oz, Elphaba's idol. She promises to ask him for an audience, and to instruct Elphaba personally in the art of sorcery, taking no other students ("The Wizard and I"). Galinda (who had been hoping to be admitted to Madame Morrible's sorcery seminar) is horrified, and takes an immediate dislike to Elphaba. Elphaba also dislikes Galinda, and they each lament that they have no choice but to room together ("What Is This Feeling?"). Doctor Dillamond, a goat and Shiz university's only AnimalNote professor, is teaching history class when it is interrupted by an anti-Animal slogan on the back of his blackboard, apparently written in blood: "Animals should be seen not heard." After dismissing the class, he confides in Elphaba that something is causing the Animals of Oz to lose their powers of speech ("Something Bad"). Fiyero Tiggular, a Winkie prince, arrives at Shiz and immediately impresses his own brand of cavalier, carefree living on the students ("Dancing Through Life"). Fiyero organizes a party at a local ballroom. Galinda, while preparing for the dance, discovers a black pointed hat in a box and gives it to Elphaba as a 'present'. Galinda convinces a munchkin student named Boq to take Nessarose, Elphaba's wheelchair bound sister, to the party. Nessarose has a crush on Boq and is overjoyed to be invited. At the dance, Galinda is surprised by the appearance of Madame Morrible, who gives her a training wand and tells her that Elphaba has insisted she be included in the sorcery seminar. Elphaba arrives wearing the hat Galinda had given her, only to be ridiculed. Defiant, she proceeds to dance alone and without musical accompaniment. Fiyero is impressed that Elphaba does not seem to care what anyone thinks of her, but Galinda realizes that this is not true. Feeling guilty, she joins Elphaba on the dance floor, marking the start of a new friendship between the two. After the dance, Galinda and Elphaba talk in their room. Elphaba confides that her father hates her because of her green skin and had forced her mother to eat milk flowers to ensure that Nessarose was not born the same, causing Nessarose to be born early, crippling her and killing their mother. Galinda comforts Elphaba, and moved by a desire to help her new friend, Galinda decides to give Elphaba a makeover and to make her popular ("Popular"). The next day, Ozian officials take Doctor Dillamond away. The new history teacher arrives with a caged lion cub, revealing that Animals that are kept in cages will never learn to speak. Outraged, Elphaba and Fiyero steal the cub and set it free. There is a hint of chemistry between the pair, but Fiyero leaves, embarrassed. Elphaba takes refuge under a bridge and regrets that it would be impossible for someone like Fiyero to love someone like her ("I'm Not That Girl"). Madame Morrible finds Elphaba and announces that she has been granted an audience with the Wizard. At the train station, Galinda and Fiyero see Elphaba off to the Emerald City. Galinda complains to Elphaba privately that Fiyero's affections toward her seem to be waning. Fiyero has brought flowers for Elphaba as a going away present, and seems to be more interested in her than he is in Galinda. In an attempt to impress Fiyero, Galinda announces that she will change her name to "Glinda" in honor of Doctor Dillamond's persistent mispronunciation. Fiyero does not appear to notice and, feeling bad for Glinda, Elphaba invites her along to see the Wizard. After a day of sightseeing in the Emerald City ("One Short Day"), Elphaba and Glinda meet the Wizard. Eschewing special effects, which he employs for the benefit of most visitors, he invites Elphaba to join him ("Sentimental Man"). As a test, he asks that Elphaba give his monkey servant, Chistery, the ability to fly using the Grimmerie, an ancient book of spells. Elphaba demonstrates an innate understanding of the lost language and successfully gives Chistery wings. The Wizard reveals an entire cage full of winged monkeys, and remarks that they will make good spies to report any subversive Animal activity. Realizing that she has been used and that the Wizard has no power of his own, Elphaba runs away with the Grimmerie, pursued by the palace guards. Elphaba and Glinda run into the tallest tower, where they hear Madame Morrible declaring to all of Oz that Elphaba is a "Wicked Witch" and is not to be trusted. Elphaba enchants a broomstick to fly and tries to convince Glinda to join her in her cause, but Glinda cannot resist the call of popularity and refuses. Leaving Glinda behind, Elphaba flies off, promising to fight the Wizard with all her power ("Defying Gravity"). Act II Several years have passed, and Elphaba's exploits have earned her the title "The Wicked Witch of the West" ("No One Mourns the Wicked (reprise)"). Glinda and Morrible hold a press conference a la Evita to announce Glinda's surprise engagement to Fiyero ("Thank Goodness"). Meanwhile, Elphaba arrives at the governor's residence in Munchkinland seeking refuge. Nessarose, now the governor following their father's suicide, criticizes Elphaba for not using magic to help her to overcome her disability. To assuage her feelings of guilt, Elphaba enchants Nessarose's jeweled shoes, enabling her to walk. Boq, Nessarose's servant, is summoned and reveals that his affection for Nessarose was put on and that his heart lies with Glinda. Furious, Nessarose miscasts a spell from the Grimmerie, causing Boq's heart to shrink. While Elphaba attempts to save him, Nessarose reflects on how her obsession with Boq has led her to oppress the Munchkin people ("The Wicked Witch of the East"). Elphaba saves Boq by turning him into the Tin Man - horrified, Nessarose lays the blame on Elphaba. Elphaba returns to the Wizard's palace in order to free the rest of the winged monkeys. The Wizard attempts to regain her favor by agreeing to set them free ("Wonderful"). Upon discovering a now-speechless Doctor Dillamond among the monkeys, Elphaba rejects his offer and attempts to escape, running into Fiyero in the process. Confirming his true love for Elphaba, he runs off with her. Glinda sees this and is crestfallen that she has been betrayed by those closest to her ("I'm Not That Girl (Reprise)"). In an attempt to capture Elphaba once and for all, Madame Morrible decides to create a cyclone that will endanger Nessarose. In a dark forest, Fiyero and Elphaba express their mutual love but are interrupted when Elphaba senses that her sister is in danger ("As Long As You're Mine"). She flies off to help but is too late, arriving just after Dorothy's house has landed on Nessarose, killing her. The palace guards capture Elphaba, but Fiyero intervenes and allows Elphaba to escape before surrendering himself. The guards take him to a nearby cornfield to be tortured until he tells them where Elphaba has fled. At one of Fiyero's family's castles, Elphaba tries to cast a spell to save Fiyero but, thinking she has failed, she begins to accept her reputation as "wicked" ("No Good Deed"). Meanwhile, Boq and the citizens of Oz prepare a witch hunt ("March of the Witch Hunters"). Boq claims that he was turned into the tin man as an act of evil by Elphaba, as he does not know that she saved him. The lion cub that Elphaba freed at Sitz is also at the gathering and turns out to be the "cowardly" lion. Boq tells the citizens that because Elphaba released him to fend for himself at such a young age, the lion has no courage; again Elphaba's good deed is lost amongst the crowd. Seeing the witch hunt, Glinda travels to Elphaba and Fiyero's castle to persuade her to let Dorothy go, but she refuses. She makes Glinda promise not to clear her name and to take charge in Oz, and the two confirm a true friendship ("For Good"). As the mob arrives at the castle, Dorothy throws a bucket of water on Elphaba (there had been previous rumours of Elphaba's allergy to water). Elphaba collapses to the ground, and only her hat, robe and green elixir are left behind. It is then revealed that the Wizard is actually Elphaba's father. Glinda tells the Wizard to leave Oz in his balloon, and sends Morrible to prison, before preparing to address the citizens of Oz, returning to the opening scene of the show. and i will not tell you the rest because.. well that's just wrong and such a spoiler
