The Bubonic Plague took place (it was not so much an event as a continuous problem from the 14th to the 18th century), Queen Elizabeth died, which meant that King James the 6th of Scotland then became king James 1st of England too, and the Spanish Armada took place in 1588.
"His arrival to London was some time between 1585 and 1592, ..and around that time in 1588, England routed her long time enemy, Spain, with the Defeat of The Spanish Armada."...
From.. 'A LOOK AT Shakespeare'S LONDON'
Shakespeare was born in 1564 and in his time exploring was one of the great events. Columbus had discovered the islands off of the Bahamas so Spain began it's great age of exploring. By 1570 English sailors were fishing in the waters of the Grand Banks off of the coast of New Newfoundland. In 1578 Gilbert was given a charter to establish a colony in America. He landed in Newfoundland with 200 settlers and claimed the land for England but the group didn't stay. Gilbert drowned in a storm enroute back to England. His half brother Sir Walter Raleigh sent seven ships to establish the first American colony looking for gold. This colony was Roanoke, the "lost colony" and it is here that the first English baby born in North America was born. Her name was Virginia Dare.
Other events in his life were the defeat of the Spanish armada in 1588 but before that Sir Francis Drake in 1585 was taking Spanish ships for their gold. Shakespeare died in 1616 so he wouldn't have seen the established of Plymouth colony in America ( 1620), but he could have known about Jamestown that was established in 1607. The marriage of Elizabeth to several princes and kings would also have been a "hot topic" in his time, but she rejected all of them to remain unmarried. She did have several lovers and that too would have been talked about. New foods were also entering the picture because of the exploring Shakespeare would have eaten chocolate, corn, and potatoes. These were not around since they were New World foods until they were brought back. He also would have seen the growth of new technology in sailing/ ships which would have helped the new explorers. His world was changing, maps were changing and the start of the modern world began in the 1600's.
Another historical event which happened in England during Shakespeare's lifetime was the Guy Fawkes plot which was exposed November 5, 1605.
A number of them, of course. Some of the notable ones in English history were the attack of the Spanish Armada when Shakespeare was 24 and the Gunpowder Plot when he was 41. Elsewhere the Battle of Lepanto took place when Shakespeare was seven, the Gregorian Calendar was adopted (but not in England) when he was eighteen, Giordano Bruno was executed when he was thirty-six, the Tokugawa shogunate was established when he was thirty-nine, and Québec City was founded when he was forty-four.
The Spanish Armada. The Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve. The founding of the Tokugawa dynasty. The Gunpowder Plot. The first settlements in Virginia.
The Russians invaded Mars.
