It's a program which is used to manage the disk volume of your hard drive. In basic terms, your computer has a thing known as a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) which can be used to store files, music, videos etc on your computer.

On your HDD you'll have an Operating System, which is an important program that allows you to use your computer e.g Windows 7, Windows 8, Apple Mac OS, Windows XP etc.

Now In Disk Management, you are able to allocate how much space goes where and if you want any more virtual hard disk drives. You may want a (C:/) for all your important OS files, and then a (D:\) for all your personal files such as music and videos.

It's basically just a place where you can sort out your storage.
