3.5MM
The question probably refers to a 3.5mm jack rather than a 3.2mm jack. A 3.5mm jack or 1/8 inch jack is the small headphone connector used in Ipods, MP3 players, laptops and other domestic audio equipment. The mathematically minded or just plain nerdy among us will notice that 3.5mm is larger than 1/8th inch. Despite this, they are the same connector. The accurate diameter is 3.5mm but the US designation of 1/8" is far easier to remember than a 9/64" connector or a 0.1378" connector. The European size is due to the fact that Europe is wholly operating with metric measurements. Having said that, the 3.5mm jack's big brother is known throughout Europe as a 1/4" jack rather than a 6.35mm jack so maybe Europe isn't quite as metric as we think.
Jack Prelutsky
Normally, mini-jack means a 3.5mm jack. 3.5mm jack or 1/8" jack are recognized descriptions of the connector series that include 2, 3 or 4 channel versions using the same diameter shaft on the male connector. Note that although 1/8" is not the precise size, it is still accepted as an accurate description of the connector range. Min-jack is not generally used as a description for specification purposes and the same name has been used to describe 2.5mm jack plugs, Mini-DIN connectors, RCS and phono connectors. If you are told that a connection is a mini-jack, you need to ask more questions to be sure of the connector.
