One external conflict is that Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet and these two families hate each other. Romeo and Juliet love each other but cannot be with each other as much as they would if their parents were friends as a result of this conflict. Since the nature of which family they came from, there love for one another did not end well.
