The ad-dressing of cats is a poem written by T.S Eliot to express his love about cats
the poet strictly tells us not to think that cats are similar to dogs
the poet starts the poem by telling us that there are several kinds of cats in the world and we do not need an interpreter to understand cats because they are like human beings, since we are alike it wont be difficult for us to understand them, next he state why we are alike, cats posses similar characteristics, personalities and behaviours like humans there are different kinds of cats some are well behaved while some are not ,some have a healthy mind while somr are insane but not all the cats are the same their habits and habitat refer to what they do and where they live and in the next stanza the poet refreshes our mind by stating that cats and dogs are different
Inthe second stanza the poet tells us the difference between cats and dogs
the poet tells us that dogs may fight a lot they pretend as if they are mighty but they often bark then bite, they may bite and fight but they are not aggressive instead they are animals with very simple and playful souls the pekenese are crazy about imaginary family of dogs. Next the poet telos us that how some people dress dogs up or change their habits and force them to look like clowns by this does not make the dogs proud animals but instead dogs are often undinified and are easily fooled, they have simple souls , they are friendly and they do not need luxurious things to make them happy just chuckmthem under the chin or pat their back, they will become happy and run about happily and laugh loudly the poet does not like dogs as we see in the next two lines where he calls them lazy and foolish creatures who would do anything you tell them to
(the poets view about dogs is that he does not like them because they are lazy and foolish creatures who are not intelligent, uninterresting and not clever. This is only the poets perspective of dogs, for dog lovers dogs are the best.) Again the poet reminds us that dogs and cats are not the same creatures
in the last stanza the poet gives us lots of facts about cats
the poet does not agree with the rule that you should wait to talk to a cat until the cat speaks with , the poet is telling us that we should adress a cat ,but we should always keep in mind that cats dislike being familiar to others,so when you ad dress a cat you are not familiar with then the poet states that he takes off his hat and shows respect when ad dressing them . But the poet tells us if we are familiar with the cat then he treats him like his friend and ad dresses him in a casual manner, the poet tells us that he heard people call him james but since he dosen't know the cat that well he does not call him by the names.
The poet also tells us that before a cat agrees to talk to someone lower than you are and agree to treat you as a trusted friend you must give him a gift showing that you like or admire him ,especially food such as a dish of cream, caviar, strassburg pie, some potted grouse or salmon paste, then the poet tells us that like humans cats also have their personal taste ,there are cats who make a habbit of eatind rabbits and licks his paws so as not to waste any food.Cats expect to be respected in the society they are proud creatures whom the poet admires and at the end when you have evolved a friendly relationship with the cat only then will you ad dress him by his name
