It was at the age of fifty-one (51) years that Molière (January 15, 1622 - February 17, 1673) died.

Specifically, the Parisian playwright died in the evening. During the afternoon, he had performed the principal role in his latest play, "Le Malade imaginaire." He had not been in good health for quite some time and became ill during the performance. He nevertheless insisted on carrying on to the end: he was always sensitive to the time that his audiences took out of their lives to spend their money on his plays. He managed to make it back home, to the rue Richelieu, but died a few hours later.
