We hear about Desdemona in the first scene when Iago tells Brabantio that she has eloped with Othello. She makes her first entrance in Act 1 Scene 3 and her first line is "My lord, I do perceive here a divided duty."

Who was Desdemona jealous of?

In the end himself... Iago planted the seeds of doubt in his mind to get what he wanted, But if Othello REALLY loved Desdomona then he would of not believed the 'imaginary proof' that Iago told him, and wouldn't of doubted her in the first place. In the end it was Othello whol literally went insane with Jealousy, it engulfed him and ultimately controlled him.

Why is Brabantios suit against Othello balked?

Brabantio did not want Othello for a son-in-law. Despite his appearance of being nice to Othello, Brabantio is a racist man. He accused Othello of "witchcraft" and stealing his daughter because he cannot understand why Desdemona could possibly love a black man.Furthermore, at the beginning of the play, he tells Roderigo to go away because "My daughter is not for thee". However, when he learns that Desdemona had indeed eloped, he wishes that it was Roderigo who had married Desdemona instead.

Who was the first person to doubt Iago's honesty besides Roderigo in Othello?

Cassio

What is the napkin in Othello?

I wasnt a napkin it was a Hankerchief, Othello gave it to Desdemno as a love gift, it was the first present he ever to gave her. Othello claims it has magical powers (this enhances the sense of unknown to Othello and his slave years and past). Othello get very paraniod as Iago gets his wife to steal it from Desdemno and plants the Hankerchief on an unsuspecting inocent Cassio. Iago then tells Othello that Cassio must be sleeping with Desdemona, Othello refuses these claims although he is insure and asks for "ocular proof" Iago then tells Othello that Cassio has got the Hankerchief. Very briefly, basically its a tool Iago uses to help trigger Othello's jelousy between Desdemona and Cassio.

What is Brabantio accusing Othello of?

Brabantio disapproves of Othello and the relationship he has with Brabantio's daughter Desdemona. This is not because Othello is not worthy of Desdemona because he is a much respected officer, but because he is a Moor (in that time an African) and therefore considered beneath the Italian people.

How is Desdemona depicted in Othello?

As the "ideal" wife: she submits to Othello as opposed to the other women who are quite strong characters. Therefore her supposed infidelity is even more painful for Othello to believe and for the audience to witness the catastrophic events which follow this.

How many deaths in shakespeares Othello?

Four: First RODERIGO Second DESDEMONA Third EMILIA Fourth OTHELLO However it is implied that Brabantio has also died during the story and we know that Iago will die in the near future after a drawn out punishment.

Why didnt brabantio want Desdemona to marry Othello?

Well, Othello was a bit of an outsider. He was not originally from Venice, he did not come from a well-known or important or rich family, and his skin was a funny colour. Although he might be a fine fellow in his own right, he is not the kind of person that a Venetian aristocrat like Brabantio would pick as a husband for his daughter. What is more, he did not ask Brabantio first before discussing marriage with Desdemona.

How does Roderigo feel about Desdemona?

that desdemona is going to get sick of othello and once she does she is going to look for someone younger and better looking and that person would be cassio so if rodriego wants to get a chance with desdemona he has to get rid of cassio so they make a plan to have cassio get drunk and fight rodriego and let othello see that cassio is looking bad so othello will remove him from lutenient.

What is a summary of Othello?

Othello is a General that lives in Italy(Venice), but is a Moor. Traditionally that means he is black while everyone else is white. He is very respected and marries on of the leading families daughters. Iago is one of his most trusted lieutenants, but after great victories Othello decides to promote someone else. Iago then begins a scheme to get power. First he brings down his other rivals for power. Then he seeks revenge on Othello. To do so he starts scandals almost on a whim and makes everyone distrust one another. Including Othello and his wife. Side note: Othello has epilepsy and no one must know or they will think him weak or possesed. Iago forces Othello to smother his wife and all of his rivals to die, yet in the end He loses his own life in his web of lies. One of the most Ironic things about Othello is Iago the most wicked liar coins the term (I wear my heart upon my sleeve.) Meaning he does not decieve. Iago makes the top ten most evil fictional villains ever.
