The world's first computer operating system (GM-NAA I/O) was implemented at the General Motors Research Labs in Warren, Michigan in 1955.

Historically, most operating systems were developed by, or under contract for, specific computer manufacturers. Here are some of the proprietary operating systems in production today,Apple Inc. developed Mac OS and Mac OS X, which are used on their Macintosh line of computers.Sun Microsystems (now a part of Oracle) developed Solaris for their workstations and servers.Hewlett-Packard developed HP-UX for their workstations and servers.IBM developed AIX, which supports a wide variety of platforms made by IBM.Of those, only Solaris is open-source and can be used on hardware not developed by its respective computer manufacturer. It is worthwhile to note that all of the above, except for the older Mac OS, are Unix derivatives.
Mac OS X is one of the major releases of operating systems from Apple Inc. It features a low level Mach_kernel, underlying Unix OS, a 3D graphical user interface. Mac OS X can only be installed on computers made by Apple Inc. Recent versions of Mac OS X include: Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Starting in Mac OS 10.5 an automatic backup utility called Time Machine is available. The current version is Mac OS X 10.10 and an early release version of Mac OS X 10.11 is available to install.
The Symbian OS is the leading mobile operating system in the "smart mobile device" market. Symbian OS runs exclusively on ARM processors and has evolved from Psion's EPOC which was developed as a rudimentary operating system for early electronic organizers. The main advantages of it is symbian OS is the latest OS,the old ones are this j2me which have the files format of JAR but in symbian OS we have SIS format, that means this is a third party software- anybody can develop softwares in this OS.and we also have fast browsing and a fast operating system.there are many advantages now in symbian OS as they also provide touchscreen phones such as UIQ phones.
Windows XP is an example of an OS. Windows Vista is an example of an OS. Windows 7 is an example of an OS. Mac OS X is an example of an OS.
Mac OS is the first operating system developed in the year 1955

A custom OS developed exclusively for the ps3.
The Graphical User Interface (GUI) was developed by Xerox at their Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). They used the GUI concepts in their Xerox 8010 Star Information System in 1981.The idea was developed further by Apple and used in their Lisa in 1983, then the Macintosh in 1984.So technically the Mac OS was not the first GUI but it was the first to be widely adopted by consumers.

After Mac OS. Mac OS was based on the earlier Xerox Alto system.
There are many operating systems developed in C, the most notable of which is Linux.
The Mac OS was designed by Apple as the operating system for their Macintosh range of computers. The first Mac OS, originally known as System Software, was introduced with the first Macintosh in 1984. Over the years the original Mac OS was developed, improved and expanded until Mac OS 9 in 2001. For version 10 Apple reworked the Mac OS around a UNIX core and this is known as Mac OS X.
Probably the IBM 7090 in 1958 running IBSYS. IBSYS was originally developed on the IBM 709, but when it was introduced in 1956 of course it had no OS at all. Programs were all loaded and run manually.
MacOS is a very old operating system. The first Macintosh computers were made in 1983, and MacOS was published with them. However, MacOS was developed since the 1970s.
Mac OS first appeared with the first Mac in 1984. It was known as System 1. By version 5 the name was changed to System Software 5 (1987) and became Mac OS with the release of version 7.6. Mac OS 9 (1999) was the last version of what is now known as the Classic Mac OS. Mac OS X was released on March 24th, 2001 and was included in Apple computers since 2002 as default operating system. But Mac OS X was based on UNIX type operating system developed by NeXT in the second half of 1980s. While Mac OS X Server 1.0 was released in 1999. The full list of each version release dates could be found on Wikipedia.
