The play Romeo and Juliet was written in the Elizabethan Era, the late sixteenth century. When first performed, the costuming was also Elizabethan, as we know that even plays supposed to be set in ancient Rome were costumed as Elizabethan. Nothing in the text suggests any other time period. In the nineteeth century, however, a custom arose of costuming this play in a sort of fourteenth century way, which has proved very persistent. Only late in the twentieth century do we see productions with alternative setting and costuming styles. It is believed Romeo and Juliet was written some time between 1594 and 1595.
the drama may be realistic or non-realistic in mode of production as well as in content. staging, make up, costuming, and acting may all be handled in such away as to emphasize the realistic or the fanciful. in a realistic drama, all the events are realistic. this means that you cant find , for example, a bird watching TV or talking, but in non-realistic drama you can use such a thing to emphasize a theme or an action.
A reader's theatre is a collection of short pieces performed in an informal setting. It may be a collection of comedy sketches or dramatic monologues. They are usually performed with a bare minimum of props, set, or costuming.
The stories generally focus on some form of conflict whether between siblings, rivals or others and it often seems that they are fairytale-like renditions where people are either good or bad. The costuming and posturing make it easier to pick who falls into which category although there are some surprises where someone turns out to have another identity or some hidden secret. Since there is only one well-known production of Romeo and Juliet where Capulet ever dresses as anyone other than Capulet, you are probably referring to Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film of the play in which the Capulet party is imagined as a costume party. The costumes contain not-so-subtle comments on the characters in the play. Capulet (who is the head man of the Capulets) is dressed as a Roman emperor.

Costuming is an art because you put the costume together, with your own ideas, like when you paint, you put in your ideas into the painting and make it your own. I think it is the same way with costuming.

Color, costuming and effects are the advancements of "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, the beloved 1939 film version was not the first but still a pioneer in color filming. The film managed to coordinate sepia and Technicolor sequences into a harmonious, dramatically effective whole. The production introduced realistic costuming that set the standard for years to come. It excelled in such special effects as the cyclone, Glinda's ball and the Wicked Witch of the West's skywriting.
