The egwugwu do not kill Reverend Smith because they recognize the importance of maintaining peace and order within the community. Instead of resorting to violence, they seek to uphold justice and demonstrate their authority through a trial. Additionally, killing Smith would further escalate tensions between the indigenous beliefs and colonial influences, undermining their own cultural values and the stability of their society. By choosing not to kill him, the egwugwu aim to assert their power while also showing restraint and wisdom.

I don't think that Sean killed anyone, But he tried to kill Gus Smith
Without the apostrophe, yes; thus: Revd. John Smith. If you're seeing "rev'd" it could be an abbreviated form of "revised" (depending on the context, of course!)

Yes. It should be--- Reverend Michael Smith.

Doctor Smith and his wife Reverend Smith (assuming she is using his last name).

Both the Reverend James Smith and his predecessor Mr. Brown are Christian missionaries in "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. They both aim to spread Christianity in the Igbo community, but they have different approaches. Mr. Brown is more understanding and accommodating of the Igbo culture, while Reverend James Smith is more rigid and intolerant.
You could address it to Reverend and Reverend Smith. The alternative would be the Reverends Smith.

The Christians appreciate Reverend Smith, but in particular, the zealots and those with excess of pride, born of resentment from being looked down upon by the rest of the clan, appreciated Reverend Smith the most.
When Enoch boasts that the egwugwu would not dare to touch a Christian, one egwugwu gives Enoch a stroke with his cane. When Enoch tears off the egwugwu's mask, the other egwugwu surrounded their fallen comrade and shielded their companion from the profane gaze of women and children. The egwugwu chop and burn down Enoch's compound while ordinary men and women stayed in their houses. They attempt to talk to Mr. Smith, and end up burning down the church, presumably with Enoch in it.
