Until very recently in human history, an average lifespan was 30 years. It is most definitely research and the sciences that have made remarkable strides in bettering our lives. Science has found cures for diseases. Science continue to battle new diseases. Polio alone killed hundreds of thousands in the early 1900's. Polio vaccines (finally created in the 50's) are credited with reducing the global number of polio cases per year from many hundreds of thousands to around a thousand. That's just one disease. Science has conquered hundreds of such types.

Science developed the computer upon which you typed your question and upon which I answered it.

Today we are freer of superstition. This improves our lives. Today we can fly instead of use horses. This improves our lives. Today we know what germs are. This improves our lives. Today we know what viruses and bacteria are. This improves our lives.

Science has indeed made our lives more fulfilling. The examples would require hours to write. But if you need examples, just look around you.
