It creates a relationship between the writer and the reader and gives off a conversational tone, as direct address is used normally in conversation . It also keeps hold of the readers attention because the use of direct address creates the illusion that what the writer is talking about personally affects the reader. When the word "you" is used the reader automatically thinks of themselves and the situation created by the writer.
