Probably because there's something wrong with the TV set. Sony's have a lot of self-protect circuitry to keep it from developing further damage to the other components if something fails internally.

This may sound silly, but check to make sure it's plugged into a live socket. As a TV repairman, you can't believe how many `dead sets' were unplugged. Usually, the owners have pets or children that somehow manage to unplug the set. Is this your TV's problem? - Your Sony KV series TV suddenly won't power up - yet sometimes will still power up if left alone for a little while. For a possible fix to your Sony KV-34XBR800, go here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=928945&page=4

for my post #108 woth a step-by-step solution including pictures. $21.83 is all it cost me and 3 hours is all it took, though I was also taking the time to photograph and document the repair. I fixed my own TV as many others on that forum have. Feel free to contact me at eclipsedave@Yahoo.com if you run into difficulties. Please don't discard that set - It's one of the best sets Sony has made, according to lots of people online.

P.S. This fix will also work with some other KV series TV's with the same problem.
