We know considerably less about Malcolm than we would like to. We know from Act 1 Scene 2 that he had to be rescued from the battle by the bloody sergeant. In the last act, he does not show himself to be much of a soldier either. He should be seeking out Macbeth, but lets the others do it. His action in running away after his father's murder again shows a lack of backbone. A better man would have been right in there trying to find the murderer and bring him to justice. He reacts to Macduff's pain and sorrow on hearing of the death of his wife by immediately trying to use that pain to get Macduff on his side. His charade of self-accusation followed by self-vindication, while it might have been a wise precaution, was tedious in the extreme.

Generally, Malcolm is cautious, even timid, and a bit bland and dull. He also has adopted the attitude of his country of exile--his replacement of Scottish titles with English ones is hardly patriotic. He may not be a particularly successful king, but after Macbeth, he'd be a relief.

What was the summary of Macbeth?

Macbeth is a play made in 1606. It about Macbeth being king by murdering. The play started with Macbeth and Banquo meeting the witches that tell them that Macbeth shall be king. Lady Macbeth knew about that and because of her impatience, she thought about killing the king. Luckily, King Duncan had already said that he is going to Macbeth's castle. So as Lady Macbeth told Macbeth her plan to kill the king. When the mission was completed, Malcolm(king's son) fled to England. Macbeth wanted Banquo dead because he was him when they saw the witches. Banquo was dead but his son Fleance (Banquo's son) managed to escape. Lady Macbeth expected that she could handle the pressure of the murder but she couldn't, so she committed suicide. Now, Macbeth was alone, so he was frightened. He went to the witches for further explanations of what's happening. One of the witches said 'No man born of a woman shall hurt you.' Another witch continued 'But beware, since the trees are moving' Now, Macbeth was satisfied. Macduff (one of Macbeth's men) felt uncomfortable about what's happening so he fled to England to rejoin with Malcolm to make an army to attack Macbeth. Macbeth took his army and when they passed from infront of the forest, Macduff and Malcolm appeared surprisingly with their army. Macbeth said 'Don't waste your time, since no born from a woman can hurt me.' Then Macduff said 'I wasn't born, Iwas taken out by the caesarean section.' Macbeth knew it was the end of his faith so Macduff killed Macbeth and swooshed his head off holding it and said 'This what will happen to you'

Why does Malcolm at first suspect Macduff of treachery?

Malcolm suspected Macduff of having designs on the crown and throne of Scotland. In Act 4 Scene 3, Macduff had arrived in England from Scotland. He had joined the group of discontented Scotsmen that had formed around the subsequent King Malcolm III [d. November 13, 1093]. Malcolm wanted to take the throne of Scotland away from Macbeth [c. 1014-August 15, 1057]. He wanted someone else to kill and behead Macbeth. But he didn't want Macbeth's murderer to gain the Scottish crown and throne. Malcolm knew that Macbeth had had Macduff's entire family and household murdered. So he wanted Macduff to be Macbeth's murderer. But he wanted to make sure that Macduff would do the killing only to avenge his lost family and household. He wanted to make sure that Macduff wouldn't try to claim the crown and throne as his.
