What is the contribution of H. J. Ekperigin?
A graduate of Loughborough College in England, H.J. Ekperigin was a pioneer in the development of track and field sports in Nigeria. Himself a star athlete who represented the UK Commonwealth during the era prior to the independence of Nigeria (1960), HJ dedicated his life to the development of young boys and girls in athletics. His work took him across the length and breath of the country's towns, cities and villages, where he established and nurtured athletic programs in elementary and secondary schools. It is not an overstatement to ascribe the present international success of Nigeria's athletes and the country's passion for Track and Field sports, to the early work of patriots like HJ Ekperigin.
