False - Many of the early unions were Marxist-socialist in their philosophy, and sought to help the common worker by improving working conditions. --------------------- hehe - Are you using OdysseyWare
What impact did Andrew Carnegie have on the American steel industry? How did Andrew Carnegie's philanthropy efforts shape society? What role did Andrew Carnegie play in labor relations and the formation of unions? How did Andrew Carnegie's rise from poverty to wealth influence his views on wealth distribution and giving back to society?
There is some modern debate about Ford. He is associated with the American Nazi movement and was a anti Semitic. From various sources it seems he was very prejudice towards many groups of people and was very public about his feelings. In 1977 Congress did an investigation of the dealings of Ford and GM with Hitler's Germany. Hitler had a picture of Ford on his wall and gave him Germany's highest medal in July 1938. In April of 1939 the German Ford division gave Hitler a present of 35,000 marks for his 50th birthday. He also published several books that attacked and demonized Jews and bought a newspaper the Dearborn Independent to express his views on life and work. At work he was a strict authoritarian manager and wanted his workers to live as he thought they should live. He fought the unions and used whatever force he could to stop them including using a private police force. Ford's book The International Jew was translated into German and was used by the German Nazi movement. He actively sought an outlet for his views and used this power/money to give voice to his antisemitic ideas. These were hate filled remarks that vilified and demonized a specific group of people as alien, murderous, and sub human. The seeds were sown that can still be felt today. So, was he a good person? In my opinion, no. I do not make a hero out of person who has repulsive personal beliefs and expresses them as Ford did.
In all times and among all nations which have reached a sufficient level of cultural development, there have always been fraternal associations formed for higher purposes. The development of Fraternities can be traced from trade unions or guilds that emerged in England. These guilds were set up to protect and care for their members at a time when there was no welfare state, trade unions or National Health Service. Various secret signs and handshakes were created to serve as proof of their membership allowing them to visit guilds in distant places that are associated with the guild they belong. In the Philippines, fraternities have its roots from different fraternal societies that reached the country in the 1800's. Among the fraternities that first reached the Philippine Islands are the Brotherhood of Freemasons and Brotherhood of Odd Fellows. Both are ancient fraternities that originated in England on or before the year 1700's. These brotherhoods were brought to America sometime in the late 1700's to the early 1800's which was then brought by the Americans to different parts of the world. The oldest greek-named fraternity is Phi Beta Kappa founded on December 5, 1776 but this fraternity do not have any chapter in the Philippines and also converted into an honor society rather than a social fraternity. As early as 1850's, Spaniards and other colonizers established several Fraternal Societies in the country but these chapters only admitted Spaniards or their own race and did not welcome the natives (Filipinos).According to the book, History and Geography of the Philippine Islands, fraternities played an important part in letting the Filipinos realize the injustice practiced upon them by the colonizers. According to this book, the Fraternity of Odd Fellows first spread in the Philippines in 1872. Most members were basically American Military men and their allies who helped fought the Spanish-American war. The fraternity established their lodges (chapters) and held their meetings in naval and military base camps.Although there was an alleged lodge formed exclusively for Spaniards in 1856, the Freemason fraternity that we know today, reached the Philippines in 1877 brought by the Americans. The lodges (chapters) are also established mostly by military men assigned in Manila. When Filipinos who were admitted as members in Spain went back to the Philippines, they also started up chapters (lodges) in the country. The first Filipino Freemason lodge (chapter) was founded in 1891.The first brotherhood to be founded by Filipinos is the Katipunan, short for Kataastaasang Kagalangalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (Supreme and Venerable Society of the Sons of the People), which was founded by anti-Spanish Filipinos in Manila in 1892. The primary aim of the fraternity was to gain independence from Spain through revolution. As many of us know, the brotherhood already disbanded. In 1899, the ties between Filipino and Americans was disrupted and the Filipino-American war emerged. When this war ended in 1902, fraternities started to rise again. Odd Fellows, Freemasons and even the Elks established lodges in Manila area.Later, college fraternities began to form especially when American Education (philosophy) reached our shores. State Universities were the first to enjoy Fraternity Life, particularly in the University of the Philippines, when the first College Fraternity Rizal Center, a brotherhood of Jose Rizal followers and who viewed the hero in iconic fashion, was founded (This fraternity is already defunct). The first Filipino Greek Letter Fraternity, Upsilon Sigma Phi, was founded in 1918. This fraternity is now considered the oldest in Asia and continues to exist up until today but membership is exclusive only to UP Dilliman and UP Los Banos students. The oldest sorority in the Philippines is the UP Sigma Beta Sorority founded on February 14, 1932. Membership is exclusive only to UP Dilliman, UP Los Banos, UP Iloilo and UP Davao students. The progress of fraternities was again interrupted when Japan occupied the Philippines in 1941. When the Filipino-American-Japanese war ended in 1944, Philippine fraternities started to rise up again and many Filipinos started setting up their own fraternities and sororities. The peak of fraternalism in the Philippines was probably in the 1950's to 1990's when many fraternities where founded. Several American fraternities were also imported to the country such as the Alpha Phi Omega. Also, some locally founded fraternities made allies with some fraternities in the United States. After that the rest is history.Source:Sarmiento, Louie Blake S. (2011). Research and Lectures on Philippine Fraternalism.Further Reading:Major O.W. The answer depends upon what is meant by 'religion.' Plotinus was a philosopher. If 'religion' is taken to refer to believing a creed (set of judgments) of some kind about the supernatural, Plotinus wasn't interested in it. Rather, he was interested in what some might consider religious experience. Plotinus was a neo-Platonic philosopher who thought like his mentor (see "Symposium") that the best or most divine kind of human life had to do with direct apprehension of The One, which, for Plato, was the Form of Goodness, Beauty, and Being. Much to the chagrin of those philosophers who think that the essence of philosophy consists in endless conceptualizing, Plotinus argues that we are unable to apprehend the One by discursive reason. Why? The One is unitary. To reason discursively is to conceptualize (sort, classify, divide). So discursive reason results in multiplicity, not unity. For this reason, it is impossible to speak or think well about the One. Speaking and thinking about the One is only useful as a sign pointing towards something beyond. Ultimately, then, discursive reason must be renounced. Direct (in other words, nonconeptual) awareness of the One is the greatest experience. Anyone who has had it already knows that. Anyone who has not yet had it can gain some idea of how blissful it is by comparing it to the joy felt by a lover in the arms of his or her beloved. Such physical unions are transitory and, so, not really what we humans seek. Whether we realize it or not, the genuine object of our desire lies beyond the domain of the conceptualized in the Eternal domain of being that is beyond the world of becoming. To attain this experience is to lose all attachment to one's self. One's old self no longer exists and one becomes a radically different kind of being. Becoming absorbed in the One is to become one with the One. These ideas are similar to the ideas of such Eastern philosophers as Nagarguna. It's not clear whether or not they should be classified as religious; again, it depends upon what is meant by 'religion' and related words. If religion is understood as having to do with a God concept such as the personal God found in monotheistic religions such as Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, then Plotinus's ideas are pagan and not religious. Similarly, for example, the ideas of Zen Buddhism would not be considered religious either. On the other hand, the mystical ideas of Plotinus are not anti-religious. After all, a theist would interpret mystical experience as union with God. Therefore, it may be best to conclude that Plotinus's ideas are nonreligious. He values union with the One and isn't ultimately concerned with how that experience is interpreted. ----
False.
unions
The Cold War
The labor unions give workers a stronger voice so that they can get a fair share of the economic growth they help create.
people who was getting payed lesser money everyday.
craft unions and industrial unions
Employers grew more suspicious of labor unions.
There are four different types of credit unions. They are global credit unions, national credit unions, local credit unions, and employee credit unions.
Although there are general unions that will represent workers of any industry, the most logical route may be finding a union that represents your industry. I see you posted under the acting category, so you may want to start by looking into AFTRA. There are International Unions as well as local Unions, so you could also look into what unions are in your area and/or international unions listed by the AFL-CIO and Change To Win. Labor unions have organizers you can contact that (assuming they decide to try to organize your company's workforce) will begin an organizing campaign.
Craft or Occupaton Unions, Industrial and General Unions
Labor Unions
Craft unions and industrial unions were two types of unions formed by American workers.
