There are two (2) generally recognized modes of acquiring Philippine citizenship, namely:
1) by birth; and
1) Jus soli (right of soil) which is the legal principle that a person's nationality at birth is determined by the place of birth (ie, the territory of a given state).
2) Jus sanguinis (right of blood) which is the legal principle that, at birth, an individual acquires the nationality of his/her natural parent/s. The Philippines adheres to this principle.
2) by naturalization which is the judicial act of adopting a foreigner and clothing him with the privileges of a native-born citizen. It implies the renunciation of a former nationality and the fact of entrance into a similar relation towards a new body politic.

Spinoza proposed three modes: substance, attributes, and modes. Substance is the fundamental essence of reality, attributes are the ways in which substance is expressed, and modes are the specific manifestations of attributes. These modes help Spinoza explain the interconnectedness of all things and how they are all expressions of the same underlying substance, contributing to his overall philosophical framework of monism and determinism.

In Ethiopia, citizenship can be acquired through birth, descent, or naturalization. Birthright citizenship is granted to individuals born to Ethiopian parents, regardless of the location of birth. Citizenship by descent is obtained by individuals born outside of Ethiopia to at least one Ethiopian parent. Naturalization is the process by which a foreign national can become an Ethiopian citizen through application and meeting specific criteria. Loss of Ethiopian citizenship can occur through renunciation, deprivation, or acquiring citizenship of another country voluntarily.

The Philippine government permits dual citizenship under specific conditions, particularly for those who acquire foreign citizenship by birth or for natural-born Filipinos who wish to retain their citizenship after acquiring another nationality. However, concerns about national loyalty, security, and the potential for abuse of rights and privileges often shape the debate surrounding dual citizenship. By regulating it, the government aims to maintain a clear sense of national identity and responsibility among its citizens.

In the Philippines, dual citizenship is allowed under the Dual Citizenship Law (Republic Act No. 9225) for those who were natural-born citizens but lost their citizenship upon acquiring a foreign citizenship. They must apply for retention or re-acquisition of Philippine citizenship, typically through a petition to the Bureau of Immigration. In Canada, dual citizenship is permitted, and there are no specific requirements to maintain it.
