Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. It's core aspects value critical thought and logical reasoning. Philosophy is the foundation on which all progressive, intellectual thought is built.

There are the five main branches of philosophy, encompassing every aspect of existence and thought: Metaphysics (concepts of time, reality, and existence); Epistemology (truth, belief, and theories of justification); Logic (reasoning, pragmatism, skepticism); Morality (ethics, good vs. bad, and politics); and Aesthetics (beauty, art, sentience, and perception). Science, religion, mathematics, and politics all stem from philosophy. Criticism, skepticism, and debate's development can be traced back to ancient philosophy. Fine art like music, sculpting, painting, drawing, dance, and literature have their origins in philosophical thought.

Every single theory, concept, belief, doctrine, word, phrase, term, and claim can be attributed to philosophy. In a way, philosophy is the basis that defines and develops everything, from God to Atheism and Capitalism to Communism. Each and every thing you touch, think, feel, believe, and know is associated with the all-encompassing idea of philosophical thought.

The terms "philosophy" and "philosopher" comes from the legend that the Greek scholar Pythagoras introduced them after basing the words off the lost works of Herakleides Pontikos, a disciple of Aristotle. In contrast to sophist, which refers to a paid teacher of philosophy and rhetoric in Ancient Greece, a philosopher is simply a "lover of wisdom" and not a professional in the field. Etymologically, philosophy comes from the Greek term (philosophia), which literally means "love of wisdom."
