In 1687 Isaac newton published his Principia Mathematica. A number of people tried to apply science to other areas of life. Newton's Physics became the rage in France. A number of French women joined clubs and studied physics. So, we know that Voltaire and Rousseau were greatly influenced by the movement studying Newton's Physics. That is why 1687 is a good date to use.
