Your philosophy of education is crucial to your effectiveness as a teacher as it shapes your approach to teaching, learning, and student interaction. It guides how you design curriculum, assess students, and create a positive learning environment. Your philosophy of education influences your teaching style and how you engage with students, ultimately impacting your success and satisfaction as a teacher.
"Philosophy: Who needs it?" by Ayn Rand would seem tailor made for your question. In short, it is needed. It is a map of life of sorts, that shows where on is, where they want to (or should) go, and how they are to get there. More collectively, it is a map of a nation's life, as well, that also shows where they are, where they want to (or should) go, and how they are to get there. Philosophy also helps give a framework to people that allows them to make decisions quicker. As a crude example, if one is already a Libertarian (a kind of political philosophy) they do not have to ponder whether or not to legalize drugs. It's an automatic "yes" as they are opposed to all "victimless crimes", any way. With no philosophy, each of those "would you legalize" questions would have to be considered seperately. Of course, you can see some drawbacks to this as well, especially if the philosophy is flawed (meaning disagreeable to you!). But in general, it can be said that a person, or nation, will always go further with any kind of philosophy as opposed to none at all. And the better the philosophy, the further they'll go.
Science without philosophy has no guide (is blind). It researches pointless things rather than what we want to know, like the origin of the universe and how to stop global warming. Philosophy without science has no substance (is empty): As an example, more than 2000 years ago, the Grecian philosopher Democritus came up with the idea of atoms, but it was just an idea without meaning until science developed to support his theory. We are just in a position to understand what is philosophy and science.Just may be a drop in the ocean. So let us allow the younger with their beliefs.Tomorrow these beliefs may correct.
To practice philosophy is to live an examined life. To be a philosopher is to be a lover of wisdom. Since becoming wise does not happen automatically or accidentally, if we want to become wise we must seek wisdom. To seek wisdom is to practice philosophy. Since seekers are questioners, philosophers practice asking questions about wisdom. The paradigmatic example in western philosophy is Socrates. .
Descartes was a mathematician and a philosopher, not a scientist. Of course, his work in mathematics has been very useful to science.
Plato
Rene Descartes was a mathematician and philosopher. While he never wrote a political philosophy, he approved of Senecaâ??s acquiescence in the proper order and argued against Machiavelli's idea of lying to friends and distrusting all because he deeply believed people needed one another.
The wording of this question implies that you already know of some subjects in which Descartes contributed, and want to know what else he did. However, we have no way of knowing what you know and so cannot answer the question.
When teaching a teacher needs to have a philosophy about teaching. It is based educational philosophy and personal philosophy. Without this foundation a teacher has no basis for teaching and what they want from teaching. There should be a goal about what they want to accomplish as they teach.
Personally, I wouldn't want to be one because I am more fascinated by language and philosophy than by cells and fossils... but it definitely does seem like an interesting thing to do, if that is where your passion is.
