In a manner of speaking, but the second law applies to closed system and life is constantly the recipient of continual energy from the sun, thus putting entropy off for the foreseeable future. So life can become organized under these conditions.

The first law is the law of energy conservation, which means the energy in the world stays constant. Living organisms need continues energy (eg. Plants need sunlight as an energy to continue its function) to carry our their function, or in other words, keep living, because they cannot produce their own energy, The second law states that the conversion of energy increases entropy of the universe. During every energy transfer or transformation, some energy becomes disorder energy, which means it is unstable and cannot do work anymore. Therefore, living organisms need a continues energy supplier, so they can carry on work.

The first laws of thermodynamics deals with the conservation of matter and energy and states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can only change from one form to another. For example, the energy of visible light is absorbed by green plants through photosynthesis. It is changed into chemical energy stored in the glucose molecules. Whereas, the second law of thermodynamics states that some useful energy is converted into unusable waste heat during every energy transformation. This heat energy escapes into the surrounding environment. Another way of saying the same thing would be that in energy transformation, some energy is always lost in the form of heat that is thereafter unavailable to do further useful work.

The first law says that energy is neither created or destroyed. The second law says that the universe tends towards increased entrophy. Thermodynamics are related to living organisms because they need the continuous source of energy to keep from breaking down.

living things cant create their own energy, they can only convert energy, according to the first law of thermodynamics, and an organism must remain well organized to remain alive and to grow.

What is the second of thermodynamics and what does it imply?

The Second Law of Thermodynamics means that useful energy is continuously converted into useless energy. In other words, there are irreversible processes in the Universe. One important implication is that the Universe can't have existed forever, nor can it sustain life forever in the future.

Why does thermodynamics not preclude the evolution of life on earth?

A common creationist misconception is that the Second Law of Thermodynamics prohibits things getting more complex. The law is usually misrepresented as demanding that "everything runs down." But if this were true, not just evolution would be impossible, but also the growth of an adult human from a fertilized egg cell. The simplest counter to the creationist argument that "thermodynamics precludes evolution" is to observe that the second law does *not* prohibit a temporary, localized reversal of entropy. In the case of life on Earth, the laws of gravity and chemistry, combined with the energy provided by the sun, provide the engine that drives a localized, temporary (on cosmic scales) reversal of entropy.

When was Extracorporeal Life Support Organization created?

Extracorporeal Life Support Organization was created in 1989.

Why do you need to be 13 to play Second Life?

Mostly because of a child protection law in the US called COPPA. If sites can't guarantee to protect kids' privacy, then they can't have users under 13. Between the ages of 13-15 Second Life can be accessed but this is limited to an affiliated organization and is restricted to its private estate. All Avatars must be approved by the organization.

What is an application of the first law of thermodynamics in real life?

Conservation of energy is found in energy efficient appliances.

Will there be a second life for kids?

There are currently no plans to release a Second Life grid for kids. Teen second life closed in 2011. Second life is generally for use by adults only, aged 18 or over. For those aged over 13 however access to Second Life is available with restrictions. Between the ages of 13-15 access to the grid is allowed through an affiliated organization. Only approved avatars are allowed access and are restricted solely to the organizations private estate. If you are aged 16-17 you can access Second Life with the restriction of general maturity rating areas only.
