From what i have been learnt, the magnet is connected to the diaphragm (the material which covers it) of the speaker and as electric current is passed in this causes the magnet to 'Push' and 'Pull' on the diaphragm making this move resulting in sound waves being produced, these sound waves then enter your ear making you hear the noise.
