positive acceleration helps to increase the velocity for positive direction while negative acceleration resists the motion.
Positive acceleration affects motion because upon acceleration the car has moved very quickly forwards and the driver's body was expecting the same still and constant movement. The driver has moved within the car, by force, and has been pressed back into their seat because if you accelerate then the car continues to travel forwards but at a faster speed than before, sending you back into the seat. Your motion has been affected (you have moved backwards) because of the positive acceleration. It is the reverse with negative acceleration. (the driver's body moves forwards/away from the seat because the body is expecting the same constant movement when in fact the car has stopped and so the body moves forwards as it would if the car did not stop. (does that make sense?) Thankfully we have seatbelts which stop us moving further.
So that is how both positive and negative acceleration affects motion.
!
A motion described as a changing, positive velocity results in a sloped line when plotted as a velocity-time graph. If the acceleration is zero, then the slope is zero (i.e., a horizontal line). If the acceleration is positive, then the slope is positive (i.e., an upward sloping line). If the acceleration is negative, then the slope is negative (i.e., a downward sloping line).
Friction opposes motion. As long as you define the direction in which the object is moving to be positive, the acceleration due to friction will be negative. If you think about it, you start out with positive speed and friction decreases the speed, so adding friction subtracted from the speed. Note: Friction is counterintuitive when you start dealing with rolling without slipping. This answer doesn't address this.
Positive acceleration means the magnitude of velocity is increasing,i.e. something is speeding up.Negative acceleration means the magnitude of velocity is decreasing,i.e. something is slowing down.
Balanced forces do not change its motion (no acceleration). Unbalanced forces changes the motion of the object (acceleration).
Positive in downard direction because in this direction your initial vilocity will be higher then your final velocity. and vice versa (Negative in upward direction)
when the acceleration of the body is positive its mean that its velocity is increasing and the speed of the motion also increases and speed will decrease when acceleration is negative.
It can change the direction of motion or it can speed up or slow down an object.
Acceleration is a vector. It has both a magnitude and a direction. So you first have to choose which direction is positive. Lets say we choose "left" as negative and "right" as positive. If an object is increasing speed (positive magnitude) while moving Right (positive direction) its acceleration is Positive' If an object is decreasing speed (negative magnitude) while moving Right (positive direction) its acceleration is Negative. If an object is increasing speed (positive) while moving Left (negative direction) its acceleration is Negative. If an object is decreasing speed (negative) while moving Left (negative) its acceleration is Positive. For vertical motion you would probably choose "up" as positive and "down" as negative.
Its slowing down (but still moving).
The car is slowing down
The car is slowing down
Its slowing down (but still moving).
Snowboarding demonstrates speed, velocity, and acceleration. It can also demonstrate a positive or negative value for velocity and acceleration.
Force is equal to mass multiplied by acceleration. Acceleration is change in velocity either positive or negative. Mass is always positive.
