Furnace oil or fuel oil is used for electricity generation. It is an expensive method of producing electricity. It is normally used for emergency power generation when gas supply is cut for some time. However, in some countries power plants powered solely by fuel oil are used. In Pakistan for instance there are many furnace oil powered electricity generation plants.
