The unit of frequency is always 'reciprocal time' ... "per second", "per minute", "per hour", etc.,
no matter what the speed or wavelength may be.
Examples:
Speed = 10 meters per second, wavelength = 2 meters.
Frequency = (speed) / (wavelength) = (10 meters / sec) / (2 meters) = 5 per second.
Speed = 100 yards per hour, wavelength = 1 mile
Frequency = (speed/wavelength) = (100 yd/hour) / (1 mile) =
(100 yd/hour-mile)x(1 mile/1760 yd) = (100/1760) per hour.
Speed = 60 ft/sec, wavelength = 1 inch
Frequency = (speed/wavelength) = (60 ft/1 inch-sec) x (12 inch/ft) = 720 per sec.
Wavelength is a length. Hence, the metric unit for it is "meter". Frequency is a reciprocal of time. Hence, the unit for it is "per second", named "Hertz".
Is that 6 waves per second? Wavelength of 8m? speed = 8 meters*6 per second =1.333 meters per second
(8 meters) x (3 Hz) = 24 meters per second
The wavelength for a frequency of 1 million Hz is 300 meters. This can be calculated using the formula: wavelength = speed of light / frequency. In this case, the speed of light is approximately 300 million meters per second.
The velocity of a wave can be calculated by multiplying the frequency (Hz) by the wavelength (m). In this case, if the frequency is given as Hz and the wavelength is 2 m, you would multiply the two values together to find the velocity of the wave in meters per second.
"Meters" is not frequency. It's wavelength. If you know the wavelength in meters, divide 300 by it, and the result is the frequency in MHz. If you know the frequency in MHz, divide 300 by it, and the result is the wavelength in meters.
Wavelength is a length. Hence, the metric unit for it is "meter". Frequency is a reciprocal of time. Hence, the unit for it is "per second", named "Hertz".
Wavelength = speed/frequency = 30/10 = 3 meters
Wavelength = speed / frequency300,000,000 meters per second/530,000,000 per second = 56.6 centimeters
Frequency = (speed) / (wavelength) = 900/9 = 100 Hz.
(4 meters) x (3 per second) = 12 meters per second
2 Hz
If you multiply the wavelength (in meters) and the frequency (in Hertz), you will get the speed of the wave (in meters per second).
The speed is (2 times the frequency) meters per second.
Is that 6 waves per second? Wavelength of 8m? speed = 8 meters*6 per second =1.333 meters per second
(8 meters) x (3 Hz) = 24 meters per second
(300,000,000 meters per second) / (750,000 waves per second) = 400 meters per wave
