True, but that's only part of the story. You can learn a lot of different things without actually UNDERSTANDING what you have learned. But in order to be an effective teacher, you must UNDERSTAND the subject. Personal example; I went to the University of Kansas to get a degree in Physics. During my Junior year, I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for freshman physics laboratory sessions. I learned more about physics (basic mechanics, actually) by trying to explain the concepts to the students than I _ever_ did when I was sitting in class.
